Lemon Snowflake Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2009
This cookie tastes like synthetic lemon so I didn't find them very tasty at all. My bf, who really likes lemon, didn't either. They may be quick to make, but I think it's worth it to make something with actual lemon juice or rind in it. Even the smell from the oven wasn't appealing. I used Duncan Hines extra moist lemon cake mix if that makes a difference? I also followed the recipe exactly as there wasn't much I could change. Also, I didn't find the batter too sticky to work with at all. They were quite easy to make.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
I just made this today. I couldn't find "dry" salad dressing mix. So I bought Kraft fat free Italian dressing. I used probably about 1/8-1/4cup of this dressing plus liberal amounts of fresh cracked pepper. I also added some other spices (oregano, thyme...). I cooked it on low for 5 hours and then added the soup, low fat cream cheese and about 1.5 cups of egg noodles. It turned out very good! I will do this again. I think once I re-heat it tomorrow, the flavours will have permeated throughout the chicken a bit better.

Jambalasta

Just a few changes. I wanted more vegies so added a grey and a yellow zucchini and some mushrooms. I used 1/2 the recipe and it will feed 3-4. I used fresh garlic. Substituded 8 on can tomato sauce with a 1/2 fresh tomato as I didn't want to open a large can of tomatoes. I would like it a bit spicier.

Clam Linguine

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
Tried this tonight and it was excellent. I kept the same amount of butter but added 1/4 cup of white wine. I substituted parsley which I did not have on hand with fresh chive. Onions and extra garlic added to the taste. Would not hesitate to serve to company.

This recipe was great! I would bring the sugar/flour/milk mixture to a SLOW boil on low heat, as it's easy to burn the milk, you really have to keep an eye on it. The family loved this one!!!

This salad was very delicious. We added extra cranberries and put in some wonderful sweet red apple pieces. Every flavor was balanced out and the balsamic vinegar really made it pop. I would definately service this again.

Chicken and Bacon Shish Kabobs

This were great! I pre-cooked the bacon a bit. Also, I noticed a lot of reviewers were complaining the bacon was undercooked. A way to fix that is not to push the ingredients on tight, ie leave a tiny bit of space inbetween.

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2009
For a person making cole slaw for the first time, this is a pretty safe recipe. I made it last night with success just using 1 large carrot, 1 daikon, and 1 celery root. It's pretty tasty. I would definitely add some broccoli and raisins next time I make it. I think by itself, it's a little on the sweet side and I wouldn't eat very much of it.

Cola Pork Chops

I floured chops with garlic powder, onion powder, S & P. I also added a couple drops of hot sauce to cut down on sweetness (next time add 3-4 drops). Baked 40 min uncovered and half way thru, basted. Very yummy!

Amazingly Easy Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
This is my favourite recipe that I have tried from allrecipes.com so far. I have made it multiple times and absolutely adore it. I bring it to friends' dinner parties and it is always a hit. We just had Thanksgiving last weekend up here in Canada and I made a slight alteration to the recipe to fit the season. I added 1 tsp of "Everything Nice Premium Baking Spice" (from the epicentre in Bridgenorth, ON - though I bought it at a gourment kitchen store in Southampton, ON). The spice is a mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ginger, cardamon, cloves, mace and lemon. It changed the colour to a slight pumpkin-y orange - very appropriate for the season! And it added a beautiful aroma and fantastic taste. If I didn't have this pre-mixed spice on hand, I'd probably try mixing cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and a bit of cloves.

Cornbread Muffins II

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
This was the first time I have ever made cornbread of any kind. They turned out really well, but weren't quite what I was expecting. I was thinking of something a little more textured I guess - similar to cornbread muffins I'd had during university. Anyway, these are good and moist and a beautiful colour. They are maybe a tad bland - I might try honey next time instead of sugar to see if that changes the flavour and how. I greased the pan with lard and they popped out of the muffin tin really well. Also I had no buttermilk on hand so I made my own - 2 cups milk + 2 tbsp white vinegar, a bit of salt and pepper - mix and let sit at room temperature for 15 minutes. All in all, a good recipe! I will try some others to find something with a different, less "fine" texture - but I will keep this too. It can't hurt to have multiple varieties of cornbread, can it?

Jewish Coffee Cake

Great taste! This cake rated rave reviews from guests. I made 1.5 times the filling recipe, and this turned out to be exactly right for the filling layers, with enough left over to sprinkle over the top of the cake. This will be one of my "special occasion" choices again and again.

Roasted Vegetable Lasagna

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
Superb. Was served at a Vegetarian Thanksgiving and had nothing but rave reviews. The two vegetarians at the table commented that it was the best they'd ever eaten. The meat eaters loved it too, all went back for a second helping. I followed the recipe to a tee, aside from the part where you're directed to brush the veggies (I bagged them and shook) and also added a couple extra cloves of garlic to the oil/garlic combo.
