Very good. A little too much dressing if you use it all.

Waffles I

Oh so excellent! Best recipe I've tried so far with whole wheat flour! nice, crispy, light. We like chocolate chips so I added 1 cup to my batter. Needed no non-stick spray on my non-stick waffle maker.

The Best Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2009
mmmm-mmmm.... I had to get my hands involved in the mixing and I used 3 bowls, but other than that no complaints. I am sure I made my first batch too big and they got a little teensy bit cakey. I will let you know how my second batch goes tomorrow. Only things I modified was that I just added and extra handful or so of oatmeal since I couldn't be bothered to save that little left-over. And just to highlight how good these are, I am NOT a fan of raisin oatmeal cookies, but I made them as a healthier option for a treat in my kids lunches, and I think they are superb and will be adding them to my usual rotation. Thank you!

Classic Waffles

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2009
I'm going to give this a 5 anyways since I subbed a bunch of things. I used margerine instead of butter, and whole wheat allpurpouse instead of white flour, and I don't have any vanilla so I used lemon juice. They were good but not excellent, as I'm sure they would be if I didn't mess with things. However, I did enjoy them more after adding some chocolate chips to the batter after I had cooked half of them. I also tried coconut but I couldn't taste it, so I won't bother with that again.

Homemade Chorizo

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
I didn't like this recipe at all. The liquid added, drowned out all the other flavors. Another thing, chorizo is NOT supposed to be flaming hot, but slightly spicy with other aromatic flavors. This recipe is only meant for spice, and is not even close to being close to an authentic recipe, or even that flavorful.

I LOVE this recipe! I hardly ever buy self rising flour because I rarely use it, but this will keep me from buying boxed mixes of cakes and pancakes. It's so simple!

Pancakes

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2009
Oh my gosh! This is to die for. I threw in 3 tsp of sugar and some chocolate chips and we didn't even need syrup. My toddler LOVED these pancakes. I used the recipe for self rising flour (found on this site) and will never go back to buying the boxed stuff again. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. Light, fluffy, and just plain old good!

I made this on Christmas morning and the whole family just loved it. The only change I made was adding some finely green and red pepper to keep with the colours of the season. This was quick, easy and tasted great. A perfect combination for such a hectic time of year.

Traditional Osso Buco

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2008
I tried this recipe as written the first time and I have to admit it was very good, however when I mentioned it to a friend of Italian ancestry he suggested instead of butter, I brown the shanks in pancetta fat. I chopped up about a 1/4 lb. of pancetta, fried it, removed it from the pan, drained off all but about 2 tbls of the fat and browned the shanks. I removed the shanks and used the same fat to saute the onions, added the wine and deglazed the pan. I added the previously fried pancetta with the other ingredients. I know it's not as healthy but it was absolutely delicious. The one thing he told me was, do not subsitute bacon, it has to be pancetta.

Delightful Apple Spice Muffins

I followed the recipe almost exactly and they really surprised me. They were moist, easy, fast, very yummy and low cal. to boot. My only changes were using 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon, since I had no allspice, and I added some walnut pieces. Thanks for the great recipe!

Flatlander Chili

I made this for end of season tea for a cricket team along with trays of wraps and sandwiches and cakes...the cvhili was the first thing to go, I had to triple the recipe and the only thing I changed was that I omitted the onion as my b/f doesn't like it, and I couldn't put any garlic as I ran out on the first sprinkle, and I added mushrooms. It was an absolute hit. Thank you for sharing!

Peach Muffins

These turned out really well for me. My changes: 1 cup of brown sugar for 2 cups of white, 3 cups of peaches instead of 2 cups, 1 cup apple sauce and 1/4 cup oil for instead of 1 1/4 cup oil, added some dried cranberries. My sister called me the muffin queen!

Grandma's Slow Cooker Vegetarian Chili

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2008
I'm not much into vegetarian food however my stepson and his wife are, so I made this for them. I was surprised how good it was. I did spice it up a bit more and cooked it a little longer to soften the onions. I served it with a loaf of Italian bread to soak up some of the juices and they loved it.
