I was born in l940 and started baking at 5 years of age. My mother encouraged me and never complained about the messes. By my early teens I was competing in local fairs and winning ribbons. Cooking is not only a hobby but also a challenge. I am fortunate to be able to live in Portugal 6 months of the year so have learned new techniques and interesting cooking ideas.

Ham and Swiss Braid

I cheated a lil bit and used store bought crescent roll dough to make this. WOW this was amazing. I made it the first time when we went to my parents. We spent the day closing down the trailer for the season and were all tired and cold when we got home. This hit the spot. Everyone loved it. In the first week after making it, it has been requested twice and my mother had me write it down for her. Even my father who is a meat and potatoes man asked for seconds.

Orange Glazed Carrots

I found the carrots to be too bland tasting and had too much liquid left over. I think there needs to be a little bit more flavor and possibly a thicker sauce. I will make a few changes and try again.
