Traditional French Canadian Tourtiere

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
This is a great, great recipe. The flavor is just amazing. My only advice is DON'T make the full recipe! I did and it took me days. Yes, I now have 7 tourtiere's in my freezer for the winter but I almost lost my mind too! I would half it.

Honey Pecan Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
This tastes like any other pumpkin pie with the crunch of pecans. It is good. I recommend using a pie crust shield or tinfoil around the outer crust to prevent overbrowning. Also, I recommend cooking the pumpkin using the microwave method as it saves over an hour of time even if you have to cook the pumpkin in batches.

Easy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2008
I've already made 4 batches of this stuff. Every week I make it since I found it. The first two times I found it a bit dry, I think you can totally ge carried away with adding stuff. So what I did was I bought all my nuts and mixed them in a tupperware bowl I could keep for next time and measured out a cup of them, and the same with my fruit. I also added a little less coconut in exchange for a 1/2 cup of protein powder. And the other thing I had to do was use a smaller pan, as well as use 1/4 cup of honey to make them moist enough for my 2 year old to eat as well which made for a really nice chewy bar. I've used both regular and light condensed milk with really not much of a taste difference probably because I do add 1/4 cup of honey to the mix. My mom and I discovered you could make different kinds using just like pecans and almonds with apple pieces and cinnamon and using a butterscotch chip in replace of the regular chips. This is a favorite in our house, and I have now the recipe down to a science without looking. Thank you for sharing such a healthy snack for me and my family!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2008
I've tried making this recipe 3x now. The first two times it turned out horrible! Soggy in the middle, blah blah blah, you know the story. The third time I tried it a year later, I took some suggestions by baking the pizza for 10 minutes first. I did try the cornmeal idea but it didn't really work, I don't think I added enough Olive Oil for it to soak into the crust, so I probably won't do it again. But finally the crust turned out decent enough. I had tried some small cake pans to make deep dish crusts and make them individual. Needless to say the crust was a bit thick on the outside, but it made 3 little pizza's, and it turned out not half bad. I think the biggest thing was to bake the pizza for 10 minutes first. My husband didn't mind it, and I think with a bit more practice I could get it to a five star, but till then I am only going to rate it a 4. Oh and if you're going to add spices to your dough you might need to add a bit more then you think. I added Garlic Powder and Italian seasoning but you couldn't even taste it in the dough, so the dough was a bit more on the bland side, I think the next time I try it Im going to try a lot more spices to pep up the crust a bit.

Butternut Squash and Spicy Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2008
Wow - what a great recipe! I went with mild sausage because of my kids and I thought I wouldn't like it (too bland) but what a surprise. It was excellent - I can't wait to make it again and I haven't even finished the first pot!

Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2008
This is a very good recipe - definitely a new staple. Only thing I needed to change was to add lemon - if it is greek, it has to have lemon in my world!

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: May 20, 2008
Very good recipe. Changes I made, I added 3 VERY ripe banana's in hopes to keep the bread moist since I like to freeze it for snacks for the kids. I also added a little bit of cloves and some cinnamon. Also only added the chocolate chips no walnuts. And used 1/2 cup Vanilla Yogurt instead of sour cream. I also divided the mixture and made two small loafs. End result...is it normal to almost eat the whole bread yourself? WAY TO GOOD! A little on the sweet side, probably could use less sugar if you're added just the chips and using yogurt, but still it is awesome, hoping NOT to eat the whole cake myself before the kids get home!

I thought this came out pretty well. I used frozen rhubarb and strawberries and I used 1 tlsp flour and 1 cornstarch.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2008
Alright where to begin, these cookies are good! I mean I should know Im supposed to watching my food intake and I think I've had 6 cookies. Someone had mentioned using applesauce instead of butter to lower the fat intake on these cookies, however as I started I only had 1/4c of Applesauce (which I didn't know how much I was supposed to use anyway) so I just added 3/4c of butter to go with it. TRUST EVERYONE when they say all you need is 12 min, they look like they're not done, and even look sort of soft when they come out of the oven, but I overbaked a batch thinking they weren't cooked. I also halfed the recipe and got PLENTY of cookies, and I used the Hershey Kiss Chips instead, which didn't turn out bad, I'm not sure about the chocolate pudding yet, I can't tell that it's in there, no weird smell or anything, just not just sure. This is one of those cookies you look at and wonder if you screwed up the recipe. This cookie is good, but something just seems to be missing, and the 2tbs of vanilla isn't it, not sure what it's missing, but it's that missing ingredient that is missing my star, but worth a try for sure!

Slow Cooker Barbecue Ribs

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2008
These were amazing! So tender. I did not have chili sauce so I did what other users suggested and subbed 2 cups of BBQ sauce for the ketchup, and 1 cup ketchup for the chili sauce. It worked very well.
