Indian Dahl with Spinach

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2009
This was quite nice. I followed the advice of other reviewers and doubled the spices, otherwise I used the same ingredients as directed. I didn't go for the two pan method though. It seemed a little unecessary. I will be making it again.

Vegan-Friendly Falafel

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2008
Loved this! I've been trying to make falafel like this for years with no success. I baked mine rather than frying and it came out perfectly. It won't be long before I can recite this recipe by heart. Thanks very much!

Light Fruitcake

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2008
This recipe is very robust to changes of ingredients. I changed the types of fruit and nuts, but kept the same proportions and it worked beautifully. Thanks for this! My dad loved it.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2007
Made heaps and heaps, like over 100 cookies, but I felt they needed a little more flavor, perhaps lemon zest.

Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies II

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2007
My cookies looked like the cookies in the photo "Marla" took, the chocolate topping went a bit messy, they didn't look very nice at all but the taste was great. My son loved them, kept going back for more. Flavor-wise, they were very yummy and chocolaty, with a fudgy center, which made me think of brownies. So for taste they get 5 stars, but for presentation it would have to be 2.... but I guess we're rating for taste in this instance!

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2007
Really nice once it was allowed to cool completely! We were eager to try it so cut it while still warm and personally I found it too sweet and not spicy enough - but by the next day it was absolutely delicious, and the spice flavor had developed fully.

Chilean-Style Sopaipillas

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2007
My Chilean husband had been asking for some sopaipillas for ages, so I tried these at the weekend and his veredict was "exquisitas"! I did have a little trouble with getting the correct consistency, but I think it's only because US and NZ cup measurements are different - next time I'll use the metric quantities I think. They also soaked up a lot of oil, so I cooked the last batch in the oven instead, they turned out like savoury biscuits, nice with cheese.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2007
These are the most sinfully delicious scones I have ever made in my life. I'm a baker and I have been searching for ages for the best scones. These are them. The combination of baking soda and powder and cream of tartar makes these so fluffy and light as air. They're incredibly moist as well and literally melt in your mouth. I made them for my flat and my flatmates couldn't stop eating them. Seriously, you will never need another scone recipe again.
