Traditional Osso Buco

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2008
I made this for my dinner group this week. I had to make one substitution, there are several people in the dinner group that won't eat veal, so I used turkey cutlets instead. I had no idea what a shank was, but apparently the turkey cutlet wasn't even close to the right cut. The recipe still turned out amazing. I basically served everyone one turkey cutlet with the sauce spooned over it, decorated with the parsley, zest, garlic topping and garnished with a sprig of parsley. It made a very nice presentation and everyone really enjoyed it.

Gnocchi in Fontina Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2008
I made this for my dinner group this week and it was the most popular dish out of all the ones I served. The only trouble I ran into is that Fontina cheese is incredibly expensive here, I could only find it at Whole Foods. Because I was cooking for 10 people, I ended up using less Fontina than the recipe called for, and increased the butter and parmesan slightly to compensate. It was very rich, but extremely tasty. I do recommend tasting this sauce as you're mixing in the cheese to get the right combination of flavors.

Warm Mushroom Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2008
I made this for my dinner group this week and it was very tasty. I wish I had seen the other reviewers comments about adding the cheese, that would have added the crowning touch to the salad in my opinion.

Beet Soup

Reviewed: May 27, 2008
The soup came out a delicious colour and texture (although as other users mentioned, it DOES take about 40-45min to cook the beets through). Since I had some other vegetables to use up, I added one carrot and two sticks of celery (all grated) to the beets as they were boiling, then blended it all together. You'll need to serve this soup with something else (ie, crusty bread), as it's not quite filling enough on its own.

Homemade Apple Crumble

Reviewed: May 27, 2008
Delicious! You can't go wrong with a simple, easy-to-follow recipe like this (which reminds me of the apple crumble my Mum would make for the family, growing up). For added crunch, I used a little Sultana Bran (cereal). This was great. :)

Glazed Meatloaf II

Reviewed: May 27, 2008
Hands down the best meatloaf recipe I have ever made OR tasted! For an extra-tasty glaze, I use BBQ sauce instead of tomato sauce (it adds an extra level of taste which mixes wonderfully with the mustard and lemon juice). I've made this recipe many times since discovering it!

Followed the recipe except subbed half the water for red wine, and left out the butter. Also added the carrots and celery when I added the water. Really good!

Very nice basic recipe- I added lots more veggies, though- student budget! Next time I will use less soy, though- a bit too strong for me. Great job!

This recipe was absolutely delicious, especially with the taste of the nutmeg and roasted vegetables (I added 3 cloves of garlic in with the veggies before roasting them). Will definitely be making this again and again! :)

Floating Island Punch

I followed the other reviews and didn't add the sugar syrup. I made this for my baby shower and I couldn't get enough of it. I used Cranberry juice as well. My friends were adding it to their champagne and absolutley loved it so there is an alocholic version.

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: May 3, 2008
I liked the consistency for this frosting, however, I did not like the after taste the cream had. After sitting for a while the flavors of the sugar, vanilla, and cream blended so it was good. I don't think I'll use cream again...I'll use whole milk instead.

Broccoli Cheese Soup

Reviewed: May 1, 2008
This soup was amazing! My husband raved about it. I followed the other suggestions and doubled the vegetables and cheese. Instead of one bag of broccoli, I added one broccoli and one cauliflower. I reduced the amount of stock by 2 cups and added 2 cups of dry chardonnay instead. Gave it a wonderful flavor. Beat it all up w/ a hand blender for smoothness. Served it with fresh buttered crusty bread. Yum-O!

Dilly Onion Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2008
For people who enjoy a savoury bread this made a really good loaf. I did end up adding a little more water after about 5 minutes in the bread machine. I like all the ingredients but may next time back off the dill a bit as I found it a bit too overpowering. This made a really good crusty loaf when set to Medium. Ideal and really yummy for toasted tomatoe sandwiches. Will be making this again for sure.
