Pinwheel Cookies II

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2008
I was in the mood for peanut butter and chocolate cookies and happened upon this recipe. I got to admit they are a bit of work! But the end result is delicious and does deserve five stars on it's own. The reason I give this recipe four stars though is because the cookies did not puff up as I expected, it seemed to when it came out the oven but it quickly fell into this thin and semi-crisp type of cookie. Still enjoyable though. I may give this one another try, really does taste great.

Ninety Minute Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2008
These rolls were awesome! They came out soft, gooey and delicious and I found that I enjoyed them better without added the frosting (I frosted half and left half plain) I also lined my muffin pan with holders before baking and placed the muffin pan on a cookie sheet in the oven. This worked very well because some of the brown sugar mixture did flow over the edges and I removed the rolls with ease from the muffin pan and simply removed the holder, they looked beautiful and tasted great! I put lots of raisins in mine and I enjoyed them a lot. Will definitely make again!

Half and Halfs

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2008
I have been meaning to make these cookies for a while now and I wonder what took me so long! I followed the recipe exactly and did not change a thing. These cookies came out delicious. I never knew having Half and Halfs would be so yummy. I made these into large gourmet cookies so I could wrap up one each and give them to friends. They taste so good though I almost want to have them all myself...lol. Because I made them larger they had to cook a while longer and I started them off at 325F and raised the heat to 350F halfway through. They are like heaven and I am going to make some more real soon, yum!

Cheesecake Pops

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2008
This is a very nice recipe and they are so cute. I dipped my cheesecake pops in melted semi-sweet chocolate and rolled it in crushed graham cracker crumbs. This made it taste just like the cheesecake had a bit of the crust on it. Delish!

Overnight Cinnamon-Raisin Swirl Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2008
This is the first time I have made a yeast bread which came out so soft! The batter for the first half of the recipe remained pretty soft and could not be rolled into a ball. I just covered it up with some plastic wrap in the bowl and it rose perfectly! I did not measure how much more flour I added into the risen dough but I left my dough pretty soft still. I rolled out the dough on a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet and proceeded with the recipe using cinnamon sugar instead of plain cinnamon. Unfortunately because I left the dough so soft, it started t spread out on the cookie sheet so I just lifted the parchment paper into a bread pan and let it bake as the recipe stated. I rubbed some butter over the top when it finished baking and it soaked in giving it a nice buttery-cinnamon taste through the whole bread! It keeps well in the fridge when wrapped in plastic wrap. All I do is lightly toast a slice and it is perfect! Great breakfast bread!

Pigs in Blankets

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2008
MMM Delicious! But I did not quite follow the recipe to a T. I used Vienna sausages from the tin instead of regular hot dogs and like another reviewer I made homemade biscuits (because I never have frozen ones on hand) and added in the 2 tbsps of cornmeal into the mixture. I also sprinkled a bit of cornmeal to roll it out. I wrapped them up and baked at the specified time for the biscuit recipe. They came out so delicious and the biscuit was very flaky, the sausage nice and soft! I decided to have them with Fry Sauce (recipe also found on this website) What a combo! I'd recommend trying these!

Fry Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2008
Wow, this sauce is awesome! I have had ketchup and mayo on sandwiches/burgers before but never measured it to a T or anything. I decided I would only try half this recipe which made just enough for me alone. The only thing I did differently was use equal part of mayo and ketchup, which was a good idea because the mayo I used has a really strong taste but then the lovely ketchup flavour kicks in which makes this sauce deserving of five stars! I will be making this more often, that's for sure.

Buffalo Chicken Wings III

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2008
this recipe came out ok. could have been better. i really wanted the flavor to soak through the whole wing. The baking tray was also very full of fat when it was time to take out the wings to coat with the sauce, and i believe that may have affected the taste of the wings too. Next time, i could probably wipe out the tray before putting back the wings on to bake.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2008
I made it today for company and was disappointed. I shouldn't have listened to the reviewers and modified it, I browned the chicken and instead of simmering it on the stove as written I baked it for 20 minutes. They were dry and a lot of the cheese oozed out. If only I had simmered it it may have been better, I simmered the sauce in the pan I used to brown the chicken and of course everyone loved the sauce. Sigh!

Cabbage Waldorf Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2008
excellent recipe! i am eating some leftovers from yesterday right now as a snack, and i feel proud to know that i made a great salad. My husband loved it, my mother-in-law too, i even carried a small bowl of it for my mother who loved it too. The only change i made was i threw in a pinch of salt and a pinch of sugar, just to balance off the taste of the mayo. I also couldn't find any walnuts in the grocery, so i had to do without. This salad will definitely grace my table again, especially when there is company! ;-)

Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2008
This is the first time I attempted to make mini peanut butter cups, so I halved the recipe. I tried this recipe because I was in the mood to make some of those peanut butter cup cookies. I am giving this recipe 4 stars only because I made a couple changes to the recipe itself. I used creamy instead of chunky peanut butter and I used semi-sweet chocolate instead of milk chocolate because these are the items I had on hand. The peanut butter cups came out wonderful and I loved the filling. It has different proportions of ingredients than another recipe I usually use and the filling came out more delicious than the previous one I use. I will be trying this recipe again with the milk chocolate chips but they were perfect with semi-sweet. I never did get around to making those peanut butter cup cookies though cause these little gems got gobbled up quickly!

Crispy Rosemary Chicken and Fries

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2008
This recipe is one of the simplest recipes I've ever run across. But I am giving it four stars only because I made a few changes. I scaled down the recipe to only 1 serving for me alone. Instead of using chicken thighs I chopped a breast in bite sized cubes and chopped up enough potatoes to go with. I didn't have any dried herbs on hand separately as I hardly cook with them but I had pizza seasoning which has a mixture of oregano, rosemary, thyme, basil, sage and marjoram. I used the recommended amount of garlic salt and I used a bit less olive oil because of some of the reviews I read. After coating the chicken and potato in the oils and seasonings I sprinkled about a tablespoon of breadcrumbs over the top and let it bake. Boy did it come out smelling wonderful! The chicken and potatoes were so soft and delicious. I had also pre-marinated my chicken as well so the flavour really got baked into the meat. I would make this recipe again in a heartbeat.

Oven Roasted Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2008
I tried this recipe and it turned out great. I didn't have all the seasonings though, so I used what I had in the prescribed quantities which was the garlic, thyme, oregano, chili pepper and of course, the salt. After reading about the sticking, i also greased the baking pan, so it wouldn't stick. To increase the fibre, I left the skins on on some of the potatoes, and peeled the rest. After cutting the potatoes, I also let them sit in some boiling temperature hot water for 5 minutes after reading a comment from one of the reviewers. I loved the idea of using olive oil. I didn't feel guilty eating this at all ;-)
