these look great ... but I have heard that corn syrup is unhealthy - or is that high fructose syrup?? Could it be replaced with honey?

Strawberry Spinach Salad III

I selected this one for the lower calories. It was nice. I did add about two tablespoons of sliced almonds to the pan when I browned the sesame seeds. I also minced fresh onion instead of using powder.

Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2009
I picked this recipe because of the lower calorie/fat content compared to most soups of this nature. I followed the recipe except for one thing...I used fresh butternut squash instead of pumpkin. We only get pumpkin from India here and it's not as nice. I served it with a swirl of whipping cream and parsley on top. I then cut circles of a small baguette and made a notch in them to sit on the edge of the bowl. The ladies at my luncheon all enjoyed the taste and appearance.

All-Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
wow this stuff is good! i made 40 servings, because that's how many apples i had. according to that recipe i had to add 2.5 cups sugar, i added less than 1, half brown half white. it's still pretty sweet though! i don't really have a sweet tooth... i didn't follow the recipe exactly, i put it in at 8.00 in the evening and was going out, so i put it on low... left it on all night, turned it off around 5.20 in the morning. i didn't see that you had to cook it uncovered. oh well, next time (there will surely be a next time!)...

Spinach Lasagna III

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2009
This was my first go at lasagna and it was the best I have ever tasted! Granted, I unfortunately have not have lasagna that often because I do not mix meat and dairy together. I watched the video on AR of this recipe and it really helped me. It cut beautifully after letting it rest for 15 min and provided us leftovers for the whole week (and we had guests). This will become a staple in our home. Thank you!

Make sure you stretch the dough out really thin, ours puffed up really thick in the oven becuase we did not stretch it out enough.

Sooo delicious! I followed the recipe exactly (except for shredding the apples. I will use less brown sugar next time (but I guess it really depends on the sweetness of your apples.)

Syrian Bread

this is a great recipe! i've been adding mahlab (ground cherry pits) to the dough to give it an extra authentic flavor. you can find mahlab at international or arabic grocery stores. i also tried making the recipe using wheat flour. it doesn't come out quite as nice and fluffy, and the loaves didn't puff as they should. it was still good, but not as good as with white flour. if you use wheat flour, i would suggest using the full amount of salt. i decrease the salt to 1 t. when making it with white flour, but the wheat flour needs the whole 1.5t to make it taste better.

Pumpkin Bundt Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
The pumpkin flavor I have been looking for! I used instant vanilla pudding because that's what I had and doubled the pumpkin pie spices and it came out moist with a delicious pumpkin flavor! Perfect cake for autumn, I'm enjoying it now with some hot tea for breakfast. It was done after exactly 55 min for me in a silicone bundt pan. I love how easy it was to throw together. This will be making an appearance at my Thanksgiving table!

Ginger and Spice Cookies

Delicious and simple, these came out better than I expected! I pressed them down a little bit and them came out with a crispy shell and soft inside. Even the bf, who doesn't like sweets and only crunchy cookies, declared these his new favorite. I sprayed the measuring cup with Pam before measuring the molasses so it wouldn't stick. Thanks!

Sesame Noodles

This was delicious and very simple to throw together. I had it warm for dinner and my boyfriend and I both enjoyed it. I was a bit worried about adding the chili sauce but its the perfect amount to add flavor and not too much bite (I don't like spicy food). I look forward to having it tomorrow cold! Thanks for a great recipe.

Caramel Frosting V

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2009
This was a very interesting recipe, but too sweet for my taste. However, my bf who claims to HATE sweets, liked it! (He could have just been nice though because he saw how time consuming it was) After over two hours in the fridge it did not whip up like a frosting, stayed very sticky. I added 2 T of cream and 2 T of powdered sugar - that gave it better consistency but is likely why it is too sweet.
