Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
I liked the pancakes, only thing is that it needs way more sugar. I must have added about 1/2 cup and it still wasn't enough. The batter is very thick, but it comes out fine..

Bee Lian's Rich Orange Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
Wow this came out really great. The only thing that I would change a little bit, is to add something that really concentrates the flavour, like maybe some orange marmalade instead of part of the juice, because the orange flavour didn't really come through all that much. But it was a good cake with a nice even texture and a beautiful colour.

I made this with vanilla and mango ice creams, And I have to say the vanilla was wayy better!! I rolled it out real thin, and filled it with a coconut-icing sugar mix, and it tasted amazing!! I also made some thumbprints and filled them with orange marmalade, and that was great too. everyone requested I make them again soon! thanks for a great and easy recipe!!

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
I made this first time for my retirement party in 2008. Made a double batch and it was a hit. I am made it a second time several months ago and was not enough because some of our friends like to pile up the meat. I am making a 7 lb roast tomorrow to celebrate a group birthday dinner. Can't wait. I love Portillo's Italian Beef but this is better than that. I am already salivating. Rose

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
This is a great recipe. I have never baked bread before, and I have hard it is difficult, especially without the use of a bread machine. Since it was my first attempt, I wanted to make only one loaf. So I cut the recipe accordingly and followed it, except for subbing sugar for honey. I didn't have honey in my pantry. After reading some of the other reviews, I also decided to add some whole flaxseeds. It turned out perfect. Thank you. I can not go back to store bought bread now. Again, thank you for this wonderful and simple recipe.

Hong Kong Sweet and Sour Pork

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2009
The flavour was excellent. It's spicy and sweet...it wasn't sour at all. But it tasted really good anyway. Even my mom liked it and she doesn't like anything other than what we eat everyday (indian food). I followed the recipe almost exactly with the following changes: I didn't have peanut oil or sesame oil so I used regular vegetable oil for both. Also, we don't eat pork so I substituted with chicken breast. I didn't have cayenne peppers, so I used 1 Thai hot pepper from our garden (spicy!) Served it with rice. Everyone loved it. It was gone in a day! I will definitely make it again.

Microwave Mochi

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2009
I tried a lot of mochi recipes and this one is the best! Never thought microwaved mochi would come out so soft. I filled mine with red bean paste. I'm a beginner at any kind of cooking and I found this recipe really easy. I didn't need as much potato starch, so next time I will only use 1/4 cup. I was able to get 20 pieces out of this recipe. Filling the pieces with the red bean paste was a little tricky and took the most time for me. I kept coating my fingers with the potato starch to keep it from sticking too much to my hand. I think making these without a filling would taste great too.

Persian Kabob

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2009
This is a very nice version of Persian "Barg" Kabob, I recommend hammering the meat firmly for a couple of minutes before marinating it, and do not rinse the marinade, shake it a bit before put it on the skewer.

Excellent recipe! I didn't have white chocolate chips so just chopped the chocolate bar instead. Also, added Walnuts instead of Macademia nuts since these are not very easily available in India. Cookies turned out very good...loved by all! definitely will bake more of them.

Rolled Buttercream Fondant

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2009
Being my first fondant...very nice. But as others have said, found it tooo sweet also more greasy. But I am looking for a recipe without gelatin thats the reason went for this one. I like it but not completly satisfied with I got. I am going to try and keep searching but till I find the one this will be my fondant recipe. I halfed the recipe as other mentioned it required much more sugar. Also used butter flavored crisco. Taste was good but way too sweet for us. I just kept kneading in more sugar till I felt it was right!!
