Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
I liked the pancakes, only thing is that it needs way more sugar. I must have added about 1/2 cup and it still wasn't enough. The batter is very thick, but it comes out fine..

Vietnamese Aromatic Lamb Chops

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2009
This is an amazing recipe. We used pork chops instead of lamb and it turned out really good. We were out of garlic powder and we just used extra cloves of garlic. We cooked it on the stop top instead of grilling it, but used very little oil. We thickened the left over juices and it made a very tasty sauce. We served it with white rice on the side and it was a very good meal

Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2009
They were really good... Everyone who ate it loved it, I baked it into a cake, and maybe because of that, the studel topping wasn't enough. So maybe the next time I will double the topping recipe. I mashed 2 apples in the blender, so the cake was really moist. I also used more cinnamon, both in the batter and in the topping.

A very easy and tasty recipe. It hardly takes any time or effort to put together and the end result is extremely tasty. I was out of orange juice, so substituted with a little lime juice. Didn't make a difference. I also used half brown sugar and half white.

Spinach Brownies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
It is a very tasty recipe. I however made quite a few changes and it is 5* only after the modifications. I used less butter.. only about 1/4 cup and that was sufficient. I melted the butter, poured it into the flour mixture, reserving a little in the pan and I sauted 2 cloves of minced garlic and the onion in it till the onion turned translucent. I also added about a tsp of pepper, more salt, a large pinch of chili flakes and a pinch of oregano. It tasted wonderful after getting spiced up. It makes good starters and will probably make for the Christmas eve informal party we are having.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
These are absolutely delicious. I don't have any muffin pans, so I poured the batter into a small cake tin and baked it 190 deg for 30 mins. It was slightly overdone. Think 25 mins will be far more than sufficient. It gave 15 large pieces. I made a few modifications after reading the reviews. I added about a tsp of cinnamon to the batter and increased the quantity of cinnamon in the topping to 2 tsp. I substituted vegetable oil (sunflower) for the melted butter. It was extremely tasty. Will definitely make again.

Shrimpcargot

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
This is an amazing appetizer. Everyone just gobbled it up. After reading other reviews, I chopped up the mushroom stems and the prawns. And yes, there was way too much butter. I probably halve the quantity of butter and double the quantity of garlic (we love our garlic here). I added a pinch or oregano and chilli flakes to the butter too. I heated the mushroom caps for 10 mins before filling it and then another 15 mins. Will definitely be making this again :) Just have to find button mushrooms again.. they are not easily available in my corner of the world.

Orange Pudding Cakes With Marmalade Drizzle

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2008
A very light (as in not heavy) pudding. I have no idea what instant flour is, so I used normal all-purpose flour with 1/2 tsp of baking powder. The batter is very liquidy, but not to worry, after you add the beaten egg whites, and cooks, it stiffens up nicely. The flavour is really mild. I didn't have any orange liqueur on hand and I was just trying out this recipe for a dinner we are having this sunday for some elderly people who wouldn't want anything too heavy, so I didn't make the sauce. The sauce (and I think an orange sauce, to bring out the flavour) is a must. And if you are looking for a mild flavoured, not too heavy dessert, this fits the bill. By the way, the photograph is definteily not of this pudding. There is no base and the pudding has more of soft spongy look as compared to the smooth, cheesecake texure. Edit : Made it for the party. Half through the cooking I found that I was out of lime juice, so I doubled the orange juice and reduced the quanity of milk by 1/4 cup (so as to keep the amount of liquid same). It turned out just fine - with more of an orange taste (earlier it was an orange - lemon citrusy taste)

Spicy Rapid Roast Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
A good recipe. I combined this recipe with the Raisin Rice Stuffed Chicken (also from this site). I soaked the chicken in brine for an hour and a half. AFter rinsing and patting dry, I brushed oil and then rubbed the spices. We don't get paprika here, so substituted it with chili powder. I baked it for an hour and half. Very moist and tasty.

Raisin Rice Stuffed Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
A very good recipe. Gave it only 4*s because I modified it a lot. Combined this recipe with the Spicy Rapid Roast Chicken (from this site). I rubbed that paste on the chiken and filled it with the rice stuffing from this recipe. I sauted two minced garlic before adding the onion to oil. I omitted raisins and instead used 2 stalks of celery finely chopped. I also used a cube of chicken stock powder. Used basmati rice. Soaked the chicken in brine for an hour and half in the 'fridge before rubbing the paste and stuffing. Baked for an hour and a half. It came out really moist and soft. The taste was amazing and the stuffing tasted great..

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Secret Recipe

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2008
Very tasty. As other reviewers suggested, I roasted the garlic. And I did take the skin off the poatotes. I was a little short on butter, so add a drop of milk to make up. Put the cooked potatoes, the roasted garlic, cheese, oregano, butter and milk into the 'mixie and it came out so smooth and yummy. Great recipe.. will definitely be making it again :)

Fried Apple Pies

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2008
This recipe certainly lived upto my expectations :) But I did modify it a bit according to the other reviews. To sum it up, I added butter to the frying pan before adding the apples. I substituted brown sugar for the white, and I used a whole lot more cinnamon powder than recommended. But it was amazing. The applesauce was delicious and the the wole fried pie was just too good for words. It made 10 decent sized pies and there was a lot of dough leftover. Tomorrow I am going to make a double or triple quantity, and I am going to freeze it. After rolling the dough out, I intend to heat it for about a minute on each side before filling it up with applesauce. I can then defreeze it and fry it when unexpected guests turn up. Edit : The freezing didn't turn out as well as I expected. The pies stuck to each other and the ough kept breaking.. I know there must be a perfect way to do this, but haven't found it. Still this is a great pie to fry and eat immediately
