Lemon Madeleines

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2008
Easy to make and very yummy. I suggest to sift together the flour, sugar and baking powder. Also to try whisking the eggs until almost double in size. The madeleines came out dense with a fine crumb.

Caramelized Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2008
I enjoyed the chicken very much, although i did follow some of the other reviews and cooked the sauce over the stove with a tablespoon of cornstarch to make it thicker. I then poured the sauce over the chicken and wrapped it tightly in foil so that it would boil the chicken in the sauce to make it more tender. i baked it for about 45 minutes wrapped up tight and then 15 more minutes opened up. This is also ideal if you don't want to make too much of a mess.

French Pastry Pie Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2008
I decided to make my own crust because I couldn't find any at the frozen section at our local store. I am so glad I made that decision because this is the best pie crust - together with grandma ople's apple pie recipe, this was a match made in heaven. I will always use this pie crust from now on.

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2008
I used the french pastry pie recipe for this pie - I added 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. cinnamon and 1/2 tsp nutmeg to the sauce and had no problems with the color at all. The sauce, combined with the french pastry pie, is what makes this pie so good. Next time I make this, I will do what others did by combining half the sauce with the apples and pour the other half over the lattice top.

Green Tea Layer Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2008
This recipe really is so good. The first time I tried it, I couldn't taste the green tea flavor distinctly, so I added 2 tbsp more. To make the icing a nicer green color, I added green & yellow food coloring. I baked this recipe using mini bundt pans and topped the icing with chopped pistachio nuts. . . great as a gift!

It was super, super moist (and weight-heavy as some noted), but I couldn't help feeling like it was missing some flavor. Great besides that!

Gobi Aloo (Indian Style Cauliflower with Potatoes)

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
Although I cook with minimal oil, I will have to say that this recipe requires more than 1 Tbsp as there is quite a lot of cauliflower. A couple of suggestions - cut the potatoes smaller than the cauliflower as they take longer to cook. Cover and cook over slow heat. Add cilantro after the vegetables have cooked and allow to heat through. This allows the fresh flavour to remain. Gobi Aloo is meant to be dry - it is not a curry, so pls don't follow other reviews of adding coconut milk.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2008
My Brother-in-law and i made this recipe for the first time last week. This was our first attempt on a cheesecake ever. We used an electric oven so our spring form pan was a 22cm and the there was more batter, we had to extend the cook time for another 10-15mins for the center to cook. Unfortunately enough the 6hour cool down in the oven is a must. After the cheesecaked cooled we ran a knife around the edges and covered it with glad wrapped (its easier to store that way) then placed it in the ref for 2 hours to cool before we served it.

Very Very Good Recipe. But i did changed a few things, i used pomi strained tomatoes and stewed tomatoes, and sauteed the trinity (onion, bell pepper, celery) first then added the meat. Thanks for this recipe.

real easy to make for quick desserts. i suggest to remove most of the juice since it makes the texture to doughy. good served cold with whipped cream on top!

Southern Grits Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2008
My husband HATED grits, until I made this for him. Now he eats it all the time! I love this recipe. It's chock full of great southern flavor (fattening! ;)) and was a real hit at my house. I made a large batch of grits the day before for breakfast, so I just went ahead and used the saved grits for this meal (to lighten my load) and it still tasted superb! Great recipe!

Cream of Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2008
I LOVED this soup! It came out so incredibly yummy; WAY better Campbells in a can! I was looking for a recipe that would replace just that, actually, as an ingredient to another recipe and I thought, "Well, I'll just eat up the extra soup!" My family hates mushrooms (except me) in small quantities, so I got to enjoy every last drop. Lol. Anyway, as my replacement, I used a little less than 3 cups of pre-made chicken broth instead of getting the canned version. At the simmer part I admit I let it simmer a little longer than 15 minutes so it could really get good and thick and I also added a dash of garlic powder since I love garlic. As for some people saying it was "flour-y", I wonder if they made sure they pre-mixed the flour with the broth (I mean REALLY mixed - no clumps, broth should've turned a creamier color)? Anyway, the recipe is super easy - Thanks, you've made one happy mushroom lover. :).

Soft, Moist and Gooey Cinnamon Buns

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2008
i was looking for a good cinnamon bun recipe and i think i found the best - husband said it was the best thing i ever baked! i only had banana pudding mix on hand and like some, put the entire box in. i was a little worried about the banana flavor, but it turned out fine - you won't even know it was in it. i did omit the raisins and used pecans instead of walnuts. i also took heed of others and doubled the brown sugar cinnamon mix. i thought it would be sweet enough without the frosting so i omitted it completely. definitely will be one of my favorite things to bake.

Quinoa with Veggies

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2008
both my husband and i love the flavors of this dish. as the recipe states, you can use almost any vegetable that you have on hand. i used garlic, red onion, fresh corn cut from the cob, red bell pepper and celery. i also used red quinoa which, i think, takes more time to cook than white quinoa. awesome recipe!

the only thing i didn't have were the pine nuts - because the fish wasn't fried or grilled, it made the sauce too watery. next time, i will either fry or grill the fish first.
