Asia

If Africa is the cradle of civilization, then Asia must be considered the birthplace of the agricultural products that would eventually feed the world. It is believed that systematic agriculture was born during the 10th millennium BC in Southwest Asia. During that time, people in Syria and Iraq domesticated the eight so-called “founder crops” (flax, three cereal grains, and four pulses, including lentils and chickpeas). Among the world’s first domesticated crops, these advancements formed the foundation of systematic agriculture that was adopted throughout Asia, North Africa, and eventually, Europe. Rice cultivation began in Asia’s Far East as early as 10,000 BC. Today, rice provides about one-fifth of all calories consumed by humans, with most of the world’s supply still grown in Asia.

About me:
I'm 27 years old. I've been married to my husband Mark for almost 6 years, and we have two beautiful children: Jacob (10/31/02) and Tessie (01/23/04). I was a teacher for two years before stopping to have children and be a stay-at-home mom. We grew up in Indiana, but have been living in Japan for over a year now, with another 9 months to go. I have had to learn how to make many things from scratch, as American style convenience products just are not available here. I share my love of cooking with both of my children's Godmother's, and we love getting together to share our recipes and cook for one another.

Best of the Best Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed on Dec. 27, 2009 by JOSEPHINE aka SPITFIRE FOODIE
These tasted great. The only modification I made was to omit the 2 T of white sugar because after using 1 1/4 cups of white sugar, I didn't see the need. Next time I would like to sub half the sugar for applesauce.

Apple Pumpkin Muffins

My mom and I enjoyed this recipe. The kids weren't big fans. I think the mix of apples and pumpkin are a nice contrast.
