Taiwan

Located off the coast of southeastern China, the island of Taiwan is home to over 22 million people. Due to Taiwan’s proximity to China, Taiwanese cuisine incorporates many of the flavors and dishes from the mid and southern Chinese provinces. Rice, seafood, chicken, and pork are common ingredients. Fresh, seasonal fruits, vegetables, and herbs also figure prominently in the Taiwanese diet. Local specialties include the Taiwanese delicacy stinky tofu (fermented tofu with a strong odor and surprisingly mild taste), ba-wan (pork, bamboo shoots, and shiitake mushrooms in a large sticky dough), and oyster omelets (traditional snack fare served by street vendors at the many outdoor night markets in Taiwan). A popular fixture in Taiwan, night markets offer a variety of quick, inexpensive snack foods, drinks, and sweets either served carry-out or at small tables.

Crystal's Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Cookies

Reviewed on Nov. 16, 2009 by Emily Walker
very good, but I added more flour to total about 3 cups in order to make them a little more chewy like a regular chocolate chip cookie, and less cake-like. They're still not totally like regular cookies, but they're closer. Great idea, they taste great.

Ham and Cheese Picnic Bread

Reviewed on Jul. 27, 2009 by bluefireflys
this is pretty yummmy. i used more of a sausage and onion filling and my dough got all crazy big for some reason-maybe to much filling? to much yeast? but its a great recipe and i cant wait to play around with it!
