About this Cook
I'm a mother of 2, a 2 year old son and 13 year old daughter. Cooking has always been an important part of our family traditions. I love to experiment in the kitchen. I have a wonderful husband who teaches 7th and 8th grade special education. I'm a stay at home mom.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook pasta dishes and things that use fresh simple ingredients.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I think my favorite traditions are actually the times my mom, sister and I have spent canning in the kitchen. It never seems like something I wanted to do until we were all there around the kitchen table snipping and snapping beans and running our mouths!
My cooking triumphs
I can cook a great turkey and my kielbasa stir fry is a favorite.
My cooking tragedies
I once tried to make a sauce with red wine and cream and it turned purple and was completely inedible.

Restaurant-Style Potato Salad
I have now made this potato salad several times and it always gets great reviews. The first time I made it I didn't have white wine vinegar so I just used regular white vinegar which was still good but the white wine vinegar gave the dish a smoother taste. I don't add the carrots or pimento but I do add 2 chopped up boiled eggs because we like eggs in our potato salad. Thanks for the great recipe!

Lemon Custard Pudding Cake
I'm not really sure if the issues with this cake were due to the cake itself or the baker but this did not turn out well for me. I made it exactly as the recipe read but when I cooked it the top portion came out really soggy. It was beautifully golden on top and I could see the custard pudding consistency on the bottom but I could not get the top to taste done. I covered it so that it would stop browning and tried to cook in a bit longer but I think this made things worse. Also, I was hoping it would have a more tart lemon taste. I just might not be a custard pudding cake kind of person!

Potato Potluck Dish
This was a great recipe but, like other reviewers, I did find it a little bland so I added onion as others had then I also added about a tbls. of rosemary and some parsley to it. Like others I also used fresh garlic. Once this was done it was great and I got tons of compliments at Easter dinner. I had plenty of leftovers so I cooked 1/2 a pound of bacon cut into pieces, removed it from the grease and cooked 1/2 pound of boneless skinless chicken breast cut into pieces in the bacon grease. I mixed the chicken in with the potatoes, added a can of mushrooms and topped it all with bacon and a sprinkle of shredded cheddar. I baked it uncovered until it was bubbly all the way through. Fantastic!
