Oh, about 20 years or so ago I responded to an offer by the National Arbor Foundation for ten trees, for ten dollars. All were promptly delivered – in an 8x11” manila envelope. Our trees were mere twigs, but Hubs and I carefully planted each of them on the berms on the back of our lot. One tree survived, the lovely apple tree from which I picked the apples to make this delicious apple crisp, made all the more special because of the apples it was made with.
