About this Cook
In my 70's. Learned to cook and bake in the 40's by way of my mother and the 4H club. Have cooked for family, friends and myself all of my adult life. Am a "foodie" through and through. I have a URL bakingbevfoodies@multiply.com for family and friends to gather and pick my brain and resources. Also do a little special "I don't know where else to put this" on my memoir/autobiography/journal blog louisiana-lady1937.spaces.live.com
My favorite things to cook
Food that requires research, testing, a learning process, and then documenting the outcome for the novice in the subject. This is usually my granddaughter and great grandchildren. Preparing sweet items, individually presented, easily portable to share with friends who would not or could not make this them selves.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Boundless merging of meal items and meal times. Cooking/Baking something that really makes people I care about happy.
My cooking triumphs
Finally getting the small rustic loaves of yeast bread just right.
My cooking tragedies
Dinner guest unstopping one side of a twin sink with a plunger and having garbage strewn all over my carefully prepped and laid out ingredients for Steak Diane! Putting too much baking soda in a beautiful batch of caramel

Roasted Rack of Lamb
followed easy, precise instructions. Roasted in a cast iron skillet. Came out perfect. A big plus since lamb of any kind in this area is hard to find. Took remainder off bones, removed any excess fat, laid 'saddle' on bones, and stored. Next time I will remove the 'fell' from the back of the ribs. Will try replacing dijon mustard with a mixture of acacia honey and mint sauce.

Lemon Apricot Cake
Made this cake yesterday and loved it. I had stopped using cake mixes years ago, with this delicious cake under my belt (in more ways than one I am afraid) I most certainly will be purchasing this mix to make this recipe. Forgot lemons, so used rest of Necter in glaze, looking forward to making it with the lemon juice called for in the recipe. Thank-you.
