For this pie,I brushed the bottom of the pie crust with egg whites (as suggested previously) to keep it crisp, and mixed the apples with about 1/4 cup flour,1-1 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, and poured the sugar "sauce" over the apples instead of the pie. This came out excellent!
