I used two layers of yellow cake and one layer of chocolate cake, each 9 inches, none frosted. For decoration, I made a very thick mixture of powdered sugar, butter, and milk. On a thin, flexible cutting board, I patted this mixture into the shapes I wanted - one 7-inch square for cheese, several tomato slices (about 3 inches in diameter), and some pickle slices. All were about 1/4 inch thick. After freezing these for about 15 minutes, I removed them from the cutting board and placed them on the cake.
This was fun and was enjoyed by the kids and adults.
