I am known by my friends for cooking enough to set another plate and making them EAT!. Born of Scotch; Irish and Swiss decent. I am Gramma, or "Gitga" of 7; mother of 4. I thoroughly enjoy cooking and have not yet mastered the art of cooking just a little bit of something :-) When the Coitsville Township annual fund raiser pancake breakfast rolls around, I "homemake" 100+ pounds of pancake mix. On the day of our event, I cook the pancakes; 1000+. I also enjoy our annual Harvest Fest, cooking the foods that we include in this fund raiser. Now we are plannning to include a spaghetti dinner to our list of fund raisers. The work can be hard, but the satisfied smiles and full tummies of our attenders puts a song in my heart and a smile on my face! I have also enjoyed cooking and baking for church activities. I have long dreamed of having my own little resturant and I would, of course, call it "Gitga's Kitchen". Ya just never know what I"ll be up to next ;) I also enjoy interior decorating.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are home made mixes from hot cocoa to biscuit mix and all in between. I also enjoy making and eating (*g*) hand made pasta and grinding cracked corn for corn bread mix. You may think me a stove collector along with other antiques. I especially enjoy cooking and baking on the old wood stove. Fresh ground corn meal corn bread baked in that wood stove..well...there's nothing much more satisfying. While the fire's hot may as well cook up a pot of beans too! Although my favorite food seems to be ones with a red tomato sauce included.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family relies on me to cook the holiday meals. Our traditional New Years Eve saurkraut is a spin off of the way my mother-in-law cooked it, simmered in beer! Yummy! Baking is another favorite. I was a baker for a nearby elderly facillity, developing and using my own recipes. It was gratifying and very satisfying work. The older people seem to have one thing in common...their sweet tooth! ;)
My cooking triumphs
I self taught myself artful wedding cake and floral design. So of course I made the wedding cakes and flower creations for my childrens weddings, and God willing I will do the same for my grandchildren.
My cooking tragedies
I don't recall tragedies....will have to mind search and add later.
