I love to cook and I am a cookbook and recipe fanantic. I want my own cooking show with a string of cookbooks. I am addicited to recipe collecting and this is the absolute best place to go. I have told everyone about it. My grandmother and my mother where my influences. Two of the best southern cooks I know. Paula Deen from the food network is my all-time favorite. She cooks the way i was brought up here in the south. I have tried just about all her recipes. I am probably her biggest fan. We own 3 Pizza restaurants here in the Atlanta area, but believe it or not I have never cooked in them nor have I ever made a pizza. I would love to try but they are very busy and I do not work in them. My husband is the hands on guy. He makes a great pizza. He is not allowed to cook in our kitchen at home. He would add dill, nutmeg, or whatever is in the spice cabinet to Tuna Helper. (That really happened).
My favorite things to cook
I live to bake. My favorite thing to do is bake on Sunday's. We just double up at the gym the next week, but it is worth it. I am really good at pound cakes. My biggest weakness is chocolate. Paula Deen's Double Chocolate Ooey-Gooey Butter Cake is by far my favorite chocoalte dessert.
I am also the Queen of the grill. I will cook anything on the grill. I have a charcoal and a gas grill. It depends what I am grilling as to which one I'll use.
I could not live without my Kitchen-aide stand mixer, my rubber spatula, or my charcoal chimmney.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am a huge entertainer. We entertain very often. I love planning the meal. I will plan my Holiday meals a year in advance. I also host Bunco regulary and love to share my appertizer recipes. When I am reading a cookbook I read the appetizer and dessert sections first. If it has cheese in it I'll cook it. I could've been a mouse. I just love cheeses. ALL kinds.
Any holiday is a good excuse to have the family over for a cookout or a great meal.
My cooking triumphs
Everytime I try a new recipe is an accomplishment, especially when people rave about it. My latest triumph though was this past Father's day when I hit the jackpot with Krispy Kreme Doughnut Bread Pudding and my first Key Lime Pie. Need I say more.
I am really good with appetizers and presentation. Next to that I marinate everything!!!!!!!
My cooking tragedies
I CANNOT make homemade southern style biscuits. HELP!!!! Gravies are not my strong suit for that matter either. It doesn't matter which biscuit recipe I've used, they never turn out. It is just down right embarrassing.
I am also terrified to try things that call for yeast. The mere thought scares me. I also will not deep fry anything. I was burned years ago in a grease fire, another time when I was a kid my father almost burned the house down, and in High School my boyfriend burned his house down completely. All as a result of the grease getting to hot and igniting. This REALLY scares me. It is just as well, since I can't spend 8 days a week in the gym anyway.
