Easy Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
This recipe has some flaws the way it is written (adding too much water, not mixing the cream cheese and cake mix well enough, etc. as mentioned in other reviews) but overall you do end up with a cobbler-like dessert. My problem is that it is WAY too sweet! The cake mix is very sweet already, and you end up with a higher ratio of cake to fruit than is appealing. If I had added a cup of sugar to the peaches it would have been inedible.

Hot Fudge Sauce II

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2011
This is a delicious chocolate sauce, but not quite the "fudge" sauce I was looking for. We enjoyed it, nonetheless. I am giving 4 stars because the sugar being called for is way too much! I used half that amount and it was perfect.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
This is a good meat loaf recipe, but with a few tweaks as mentioned on other reviews, it becomes a GREAT meat loaf recipe. I added three cloves of chopped garlic to the meat mixture, as well as a little dash of soy sauce. I added dry mustard and Worcestershire sauce to the ketchup mixture, and I did not put sauce on the bottom of a loaf pan - I formed my loaves and placed them on a foil-covered cookie sheet and then spooned the ketchup-brown sugar sauce over the tops for the last 15 minutes of baking. Also, it took more like 1-1/2 hours to bake, not an hour. For all of these reasons, I gave it four stars.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
This is scrum-diddily-umptious! The butter-flour-sugar mixture becomes like caramel in the oven and creates this glorious glaze over the top of the pie, plus brings a luxurious flavor and texture to the apples. You have to try it!

Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2010
This was OK but way too sweet (even when I cut back by 1/3 cup sugar from the recipe given) and I actually did not find it to be as moist as the other reviews raved about it. Sorry, but this was "so-so" and not one for me to keep in my files.

Bill's Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2010
Really good! I have never made this with butter before, and thought it would be sinful, but it does add another dimension. I did not use maple sausage so in order to provide some flavor other than the salt and pepper, I added a dash of cayenne and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. Perfect!

Buttermilk Pancakes II

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2010
This is the best pancake recipe I have ever tried. The pancakes are smooth and crusty on the outside and fluffy and delightful on the inside. The inside is almost custardy because while it cooks through, there is something really rich and wonderful that makes these more moist than average pancakes. Scrumptious!

Texas Egg Rolls

Reviewed: May 29, 2010
Quite yummy, and different! Make sure you absorb the oil on paper towels before serving or they are too greasy. Also, be sure to serve warm/hot because otherwise the cheese starts to solidify. Definitely serve with a high quality salsa!

General Tao Chicken

Reviewed: May 29, 2010
This is really good! In fact, cooking the chicken in the cornstarch/flour/egg/baking powder mixture is the closest thing I have tried yet to restaurant style Chinese food. The reason I gave it four stars is that there is no heat in the recipe. I think next time I will add some red pepper flakes to see if that helps. It wasn't bland - in fact the ginger and onion flavor it nicely - but it is not spicy the way that General Tsao chicken usually is.

Smooth Sweet Tea

I wish I had learned this trick years ago! Adding the baking soda does something to make the bitterness go away. The tea is indeed very smooth!

Ham and Bean Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2010
This is a very good recipe. I did leave out the bratwurst and the green pepper because I disklike both of those things. Instead of Worcestershirt sauce I used Pickapeppa sauce. Also, after removing the ham bone and meat I used my immersion blender to smoosh up the beans and vegetables. Then I cut up the meat and added bite sized pieces back in. It was quite yummy!

Shredded Beef Enchiladas

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2009
Absolutely delicious! I had a frozen chuck roast and looked for a recipe to suit it -- this is one of the best recipes I've gotten from this site in some time. The meat is buttery and perfectly seasoned; the cheese sauce is delectable and could be used in any number of other recipes. This will become a regular treat at our house.

Favorite Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2009
Wonderful cookies! Delicious right out of the oven with a cold glass of milk. The dough whips up in no time flat. I used real butter, not margarine. I also took them out at 11 minutes - 12 is a little too long.

Basic Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2009
Very simple and very good! I love the toasted almonds. I also like that the ratio of mayo to chicken is not too high -- it's just right! You must include the lemon. I made it just as is and it was fantastic!

Crepes with Spinach, Bacon and Mushroom Filling

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2009
So good! I had never made crepes before, so I'm very excited to learn how easy it really is. The filling was scrumptious, but the reason I'm giving it four stars is that the hollandaise-like sauce is way too runny and way too lemony as is. I used 2 Tablespoons of fresh lemon juice. I also tried to get the egg sauce thicker, but it wouldn't thicken. I spooned a little bit over the crepes and baked them for 15 minutes at 350 as suggested by a few other reviewers, and that worked out well. Be warned - this does dirty up quite a few dishes!

Sweet Polish Sausage

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2009
Very good! I used about half of the brown sugar, and I think next time I will only use half an onion. I also used precooked sausage and boiled it for about 10 minutes. It went into the oven with the sauce for about 45 minutes.

Gravy Baked Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2009
I'm giving these four stars because even though they were good, I think they would have been pretty plain as the recipe is published here. Like other reviewers, I seasoned the pork chops on both sides with a little salt, plenty of fresh ground black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. I sliced onions and mushrooms and sauteed them first in the butter and added a tablespoon of olive oil. I placed the veges in the 9 x 13 dish and placed the chops on top. I mixed the cream of mushroom soup with about 8 ounces of milk and poured that over the dish. Baked at 350 for about 45 minutes, and served it over mashed potatoes. Yum!

Chocolate Covered Easter Eggs

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2009
I made most of them in peanut butter and about a quarter of them with maraschino cherries added to the plain mixture. These were a very big hit! I took them to my mom's for our family Easter dinner, and I shared some with folks at work, too. Everyone liked them!
