Turkey a la King

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2009
I'm sure the original recipe is fine all put together, but what's an "a la king" without green peppers & pimentos? I used a ton of fresh mushrooms, onions, and green peppers cooked in 2T of butter. I then added 1 can of fat free condensed cream of chicken soup instead of the flour & cream. (My boyfriend can't do milk products.) That made a great meal. Served over the mashed potatoes I had left from Thanksgiving. Made a delicious meal!

Marinated Grilled Shrimp

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
I honestly LOVED these shrimp. I thought the flavor was AMAZING, but I may have cheated a little. I didn't have tomato sauce, but I DID have Mrs. T's Bold & Spicy Bloody Mary mix in my fridge. While it didn't exactly add any spice, it probably added flavor. And, boy! What a flavor!!!! I'm going to make these for a large group of guests this week, and I cannot wait for them to try it!

The Real Mojito

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2009
We just got back from Mexico, and were craving this delicious drink! This recipe was even BETTER than theirs! Absolutely make the simple sugar (1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water in a saucepan. Heat very slowly, stirring constantly, until the liquid is clear). We used pint glasses, so 2 large spoons of it was plenty. I followed the recipe step by step, and we all really enjoyed them!

Black Bean and Couscous Salad

Reviewed: May 11, 2009
I'm only giving this 4 stars because I think it's absolutely necessary to double the dressing. Otherwise, amazing flavor, great recipe. I did also add what feta I had left in my fridge, and it was really delicious!!

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2009
I NEVER bake, so we were very nervous to try these when they came out of the oven. But, oh my, they were AMAZING! We followed the recipe exactly, except we took the advise of other members to crush up the banana instead of chunks. Everyone loved them, and the crumb topping was just that extra bit of "wow"!

Laura's Unbelievable Chicken and Pasta

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2008
I can't imagine this being any good without some flavor! Use fresh spinach over frozen. You can add this with the cream cheese, and it wilts nicely. I sauteed 2 cloves of garlic in a small amount of butter, then cooked chicken for a few minutes until white on all sides. This seemed to lock in some flavor. I also added red pepper flakes, salt & pepper to the chicken for a boost. Overall this is a wonderful & simple recipe, although I had to thicken with corn starch. I think a can of cream of chicken soup would have substituted the cream cheese & chicken broth nicely. An ok recipe with changes.

Greek Orzo Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2008
ABSOLUTELY delicous. I followed the other comments and used a VERY small amount of greek dressing, added at the last minute, instead of the oily artichoke marinade. I used cherry tomatoes, and left the olives on the side for those who like them. This got RAVE reviews at our dinner party of 6. Try this, you'll LOVE it! I'm so glad I doubled the recipe for my family picnic this weekend. I hear it's even better after a few days.

Cajun Chicken Pasta

We loved this! I skipped the green onions (because I forgot them), used fat free 1/2 & 1/2 and thickened with flour in the end. A hearty, cozy and very flavorful meal with just a little kick!

Buttery Herb Wine Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2008
Absolutely delicious. I'm sure it would have been fine on it's own, but I did NOT add the egg and I did add 2 cloves of garlic to the butter & mushroom mixture. I'm assuming no egg made it difficult to thicken, so I ended up adding an additional teaspoon of flour. I served this over a full box of bowtie pasta, with crumbled chicken sausage & wilted spinach. I used fat free half & half, and you'd never know (probably because of the stick of butter!). I'd add more mushrooms (fresh, of course), but everything was completely delicious!!

Different Chicken Cordon Bleu

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2008
Satisfying and delicious! I made this recipe with low-fat ingredients, and you'd never know the difference. I also added the following:I used paprika, pepper, onion flakes & garlic powder to season the chicken before I added the remaining ingredients. I added additional similar seasonings to the sauce mixture. I used Stove Top chicken stuffing, and prepared the stuffing before hand with 2/3 of the required water. This left some to absorb the liquid from the sauce, but didn't leave all crunchy stuffing. A perfect mix! I will absolutely make again! Served with instant mashed and peas.

Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2007
The best part about this recipe is that you're not rushing at the last minute trying to mash the potatoes. Everyone absolutely RAVED about these. No joke. We doubled the recipe and added chives & 2 heads of roasted garlic. Perfect. The one suggestion I would insist on is that you put a dish towel between the crockpot & lid. Otherwise you'll end up with soupy potatoes. The cloth absorbes the steam, leaving you with the perfect consistancy. Delicious!

Creamy Twice-Baked Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2007
Very good, very creamy...but if you add enough butter, sour cream or cream cheese to anything, you have creamy. It could have had chives or green onion, maybe even bacon bits, but a delicous recipe!

Dog Food Dip

This was a hit at my party! I'm not sure it really needed to sit overnight. It tasted the same it did to me, but my friends ate it up! I used about 2/3 of a 7oz can of jalepenos, and it had just enough kick. I'll make this again for my next party!

Chicken Enchiladas V

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2007
Delicious recipe, and so easy! Absolutely double the sauce...you'll regret it if you don't. It will seem VERY saucy, but it bakes right down. I used 98% fat free soups and light sour cream, and I didn't miss a thing. I used a little extra Mexican cheese blend, served it with yellow rice and corn. A wonderful recipe! OOH...definitely spray your baking pan with non-stick spray. We had a MESS with sticking tortillas, but it still tasted great!

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2007
This is very good. We stuck to the recipe to try it out for our upcoming Thanksgiving dinner. The crackers don't seem like they'll be enough, but they really go a long way. It's very "sour creamy", so I would cut back on that. We diced our onion into VERY small pieces to avoid undercooking, and it turned out great. I did miss some of that mushroom soup flavor, but this was a wonderful alternative. For the real Thanksgiving dinner we'll use fresh green beans instead of canned, and less sour cream. Great recipe!

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2007
I'm only giving this 4 stars because of the changes you should make. I took the advise of other reviews and used chicken broth instead of water. You'll only need about 1/2 can. I seasoned the chicken with paprika, parsley flakes & black pepper, and added a bag of frozen peas & carrots before I layered the buscuits. I used fat-free or reduced fat ingredients, and it turned out just as delicious. Our 8 & 3 year olds loved it. Great for a cozy, cold day.

Crustless Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2007
Aboslutely delicious, and SO EASY. I used shredded cheddar, and lightened it up by using egg beaters. I didn't miss the real eggs. I made this for a group of friends, and EVERYONE raved. You do not miss the crust. I found that it took a little longer to cook in the middle, but I just blasted it at 400 for another 15 minutes. Excellent recipe!

Meaty Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2007
This sauce was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I personally like more garlic, which I added. This is by far the best sauce I've ever made. I had a party of 26 people for New Years dinner. This recipe made plenty for all, and was RAVED about. I can't stress how delicious this was, and you didn't need to add thing. Even my boyfriends kids loved it! The 3-year-old kept asking for more! I highly recommend!

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2007
Absolutely disgusting. Do not waste your time, unless you're willing to buy the really expensive cheese that might melt better. It was gritty, and flavorless. I followed the recipe to a T, except for adding more garlic. Too heavy, and you do not need all of that parmesean.

Beef Stew IV

This stew had good flavor, not great. I had to add so much more seasoning than they asked for. It also turned out very starchy and thick. I added peas, extra garlic and more broth.
