About this Cook
I'm a mother of five--three boys ages 24, 17 and 15 and two girls ages 19 and 14. I enjoy cooking big meals for my kids and their friends, and I'm having fun watching the kids learn to cook.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake breads and pies, and my favorite recipe is one for dinner rolls that came from the kids' great-great grandmother. I also enjoy making Italian dishes such as lasagna.
My favorite family cooking traditions
It has to be cookies with the kids, and baking pies using my mother's pie crust recipe.
My cooking triumphs
Watching my 14 year old daughter make pie crust on her own, and seeing it turn out perfect on her first try! (yeah, she's still bragging because my crust split in two that day!)
My cooking tragedies
The first time I made a big meal on my own, I made lasagna. It looked good, but I didn't let it sit after taking it out of the oven, and ended up serving "lasagna soup". Made it a second time a few months later, and forgot the cheese. I also made a cool whip pie in high school that had a crust that my boyfriend couln't cut with a knife. He had to stop eating it because he said he was afraid he'd break my mother's plate.

Black Magic Cake
I made this as cupcakes, and got so many compliments! I used Hershey's one-bowl chocolate frosting to top them, and they were perfect!

Angel Hair Pasta with Garlic Shrimp and Broccoli
This was good, but I did change a few things. I had to use frozen shrimp because I just can't get fresh shrimp in Iowa in January. I used fresh broccoli instead of frozen, fresh garlic, and a lot less salt. We liked it and will more than likely have it again.

Buffalo Chicken Dip
This is now our favorite dip! It tastes just like Buffalo wings without all the work. My son couldn't stop eating it! I didn't tell him I had used blue cheese dressing instead of ranch, and had added some extra blue cheese crumbles. YUM!!
