About this Cook
I was born, raised and received my early education in Toronto Canada where there is a thriving multicultural environment. With my husband, now retired from the Cdn military and our three children I have lived in Beirut Lebanon,Mons Belgium, Montgomery Alabama,Colorado Springs Co and 5 Cdn provinces. I attended college in BC and journalism in Ontario.
My favorite things to cook
Inspiring dishes
My favorite family cooking traditions
A roast on Sunday
My cooking triumphs
Anything that hasn't failed
My cooking tragedies
There are two that stand out. When first married I attempted baking powder biscuits (a personal favourite), but there was just a stringy, gooey mess. The other was a dinner for guests shortly after our arrival in Belgium. I had bought Cornish Game Hen at the American PX, prepared them as usual, but forgot that the gas stove could be so temperamental. (A friend once remarked that it could bake ceramics). When I thought the Hens were ready, they were whisked in with a flourish to be greeted with great oohs and ahhs. Then came the moment of truth-- nobody could cut into them; the knives kept bouncing off!! The stove had done me in.

Chicken Pot Pie IX
Great to find a recipe that doesn't call for canned soup!I added some poultry season and savoury because of a family preference and did a wash of egg white and water on the top crust. Dee-lish!

Chicken Flautas
For those who are health conscious (and who shouldn't be) instead of dipping in oil place tortillas on damp paper tpwel, place in micro on high for 10 sec's. For a softer tortilla top, LIGHTLY brush with canola (a healthier oil) and proceed as directed in recipe

Turkey Pot Pie II
We had turkey last week and I froze enough for a pie, checked this one out but it sounds a little too anaemic so I will add some lightly cooked celery, onion, poultry seasoning, white pepper, and a dash of sage, marjoram and thyme, canned gravy(no msg like canned soup)then brush the top crust with egg white and water for that lovely browned finish.
