About this Cook
I'm a freelance writer and graphic designer living in DFW area. I LOVE FOOD. I especially love trying new recipes and sharing them with other people. I'm always looking for delicious healthy recipes with whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and lower-fat alternatives. My rule is that if I want cookies or cake, I have to make them myself (and I do).
My favorite things to cook
granola bars, whole grain pancakes and breads, LOVE appetizers like spinach and feta phyllo triangles, stuffed mushrooms, and vegetarian "sushi," also shrimp scampi, pasta with pesto sauce, and chocolate chip cookies!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom taught me (almost) everything I know about cooking! What a great cook! We were lucky to have homemade meals every night and fresh baked homemade bread. As a kid, I loved decorating sugar cookies and trying the fanciest recipes I could find in her Betty Crocker Cookie Book.
My cooking triumphs
I made a great gingerbread house last year, and plan to top it this year. I found an excellent Martha Stewart appetizer book someone was throwing out, and let me tell you, that lady knows what she's doing with the appetizers. Every one I've tried from that book has been a huge hit. Also, I've invented some great healthy pancakes, and have a few more things up my sleeve...
My cooking tragedies
Once I dumped an entire chocolate bundt cake onto the floor while I was trying to invert it. Apparently it wasn't done in the middle.

Hamburger Rice Soup
Delicious! I just made it and ate it. As with any soup recipe, I made some alterations to suit my taste and the ingredients I happened to have. I added a bunch of spinach at the end of cooking, which gave it nice color (also I was out of celery.) Also, I added a beef bullion cube, chili powder to taste, a couple splashes of hot sauce, and a couple splashes of Worchestershire sauce. (I had read other review and agreed the flavor needed a kick.) Also added a clove of garlic and a couple of green peppers from my mom's garden. Thanks for a great recipe; I will make it again! (Sorry for the alterations, I just can't help myself.)

Lloyd's Healthy Chicken Zoopa
Fantastic! Love that it was filled with veggies, and the hot sauce gave it a tasty kick without really adding much heat. I will be making this again, thanks!!

Penne Pasta with Spinach and Bacon
Very good! I added Canadian bacon to make it a main dish without adding so much fat. It was all eaten quickly; thanks for a good recipe! (I also used whole wheat egg noodles.)
