Aloha Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2009
I am just giving this a four star because I felt that it needed some seasoning, other than that, it was a great recipe! I cut my chicken into smaller pieces instead. For the dredging, I mixed 1 cup of flour, about 2 tablespoons seasoning salt, 1 tsp. paprika and some black pepper. I also used peanut oil instead to fry the chicken so that the oil didn't burn. To the sauce, I did as other reviewers suggested and added red pepper & also added about 2 tablespoons of soy sauce cause I felt like this recipe had too much sweet in it. I think next time I will try making the chicken grilled instead of fried. It was really good, but like I said, it needed spice! I will definitely make this again. Thanks for the recipe Jenny!!

Mushroom Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: May 5, 2009
I have tried this a couple of different ways. First I increased the serving size to 6, used a can of cream of mushrooms in place of the canned mushrooms, reduced the water to 6 oz., which came out pretty good. The second time, I made it with the mushrooms, it came out okay. The third time I made it using fresh mushrooms and cream of mushroom soup, again reducing the water and used wild rice - increasing the cooking time to 45 mins., instead of 20. That was our favorite! I will definately make this over and over. Thank you Anita!

Skillet Beef and Macaroni

This dish is a great starter with many possabilities. We made too much and had left overs which we added spagetti sauce too, very yummy. Hubby and I had a lot of good ideas for this plate, so no doubt we will be using this recipe for a long time to come.

This was a great marinade. It made the chicken taste great even though I only marrinated it for 3 hours or so.

Stuffed Peppers

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
This has become a family favorite in our house. When I make this, I double the rice, I use about 1 1/4- 1 1/2 lb. ground turkey, I add oregano to the turkey just as its done browning, and after I mix the meat and rice together, I let it cool a little and then add about 1/2 - 3/4 cup cheese to the mix, and also add the cheese on top. Everyone loves it. I used to blanche the peppers, but since only a few of us in the house actually eat the pepper, I don't take the time to do that anymore. I think it tastes good either way. Great recipe!!!

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
This is a great recipe! I have made it time and time again. I always add at least 3-4 cloves of garlic and fresh ground pepper. I serve it with grilled chicken, it is delicious! I would say its probably better than Olive Gardens sauce!!!

Easy Mexican Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
This has become one of our family favorites! The first time I made it however, I didn't have any chili beans on hand so instead I used one can of black beans and one can of kidney beans, and I have been making it like that ever since. I also made the following changes: I browned the meat in taco seasoning (no water, just the mix), Instead of 2 full cups salsa, I just added 1 jar Pace Picante Sauce, I put one layer of chips at the bottom of the pan, then added the mix & sour cream and on top of that I added crumbled up chips and cheese, covered baked, and then added the onions, tomatoes and olives (and a little more sour cream to those who wanted it), when I served it. We probably have this dish once a month now! Tyvm for the recipe, we love it!!

Hot Cocoa Mix

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2008
I have to agree with some of the other reviewers, this is a good starter mix, but I feel that it could use some doctoring up. I messed up the first time I made a half batch and added just a little more cayenne pepper than I intended to add (an 1/8 tsp. should do btw), so I had to make another half batch to compensate. It s much better now. I also added 1 tsp. salt to the full batch to balance it all out. Also like some of the other reviewers, I cut the milk back by about 3/4 and added creamer to compensate. Very creamy thats for sure! I'm actually drinking it with water vs. milk, which is my prefered way to make hot cocoa and its pretty good!

Kim's Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2007
Wow! Let me start off by saying that I didn't have all the ingredients called for so I had to do some substitutions. Instead of Cider Vinegar I used 1/2 Red Wine Vinegar & 1/2 Balsamic Vinegar. I also didn't have Jalapenos, plus I had to feed this to my kids so I used Yellow Peppers instead, which are much more mild. I also didn't add all of the mayo cause I ran out, but it was only like 3 tablespoons short, which turned out perfect. Once I was done putting it together, I decided to add a little handful of cilantro since it seemed like a good match. [Great choice by the way!] This Mac Salad was OUTSTANDING. I really, really liked it & I am NOT typically a Mac Salad fan. I will definately make this again. Infact, I can't wait to make it for my family who loves spicy stuff. Thanks for the recipe!!

I just went to a Babyshower a few weeks ago where they served these. OMG, they were sooo delicious!!! The gal that made them thought she picked the wrong thing to make because she thought people wouldn't care for spicy foods...they were a hit! Everyone raved about them. I can't wait to make them!!!

Rempel Family Meatloaf

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2007
This was okay. I think it needed a little something but it was still good. To be fair though, I did make it with ground turkey [health reasons], so that probably took away from the awesome beef flavor. The whole family liked it just fine. I would probably make it again.

Grocery Store Frosting

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2007
I really, really liked this frosting. It was really easy to make and it turned out great. I added more shortening because I thought it was rather sweet at first, but I'm not sure how much shortening I added [sorry], cause I just kept adding it until it wasn't super sweet anymore.

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2007
Most definately a 5 star recipe. I'm not into Mac N Cheese much, but this recipe is good. I had to make some modifications, for instance, I only had about half the amount of medium cheddar so I added mild cheddar. I also mixed in about 1/4 cup of cream style corn (I scaled the recipe down to 3 people). I didn't add any salt because I believe the salt from the bread crumbs & butter was pleanty. Plus I salted the pasta. It turned out good and I will definately make it for dinner one of these days. Thanks for the recipe!!!

Rolled Buttercream Fondant

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2007
This was muy first time making Fondant, and I'm not sure if it was me, or what, but this didn't turn out very well. It was an absolute mess. No matter what I did (refrigerated it, added more powdered sugar, etc.), the fondant still fell part every time I layed it on the cake. I too found that it was very greasy looking...and when I served it for the party, my family was joking around that it reminded them of tile grout or tar or something! LOL I will probably not make it again, since no one ate it.

Whipped Cream Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2007
This is a very good tasting frosting. I was looking for Cream Cheese or Cheesecake Filling & decided to try this one. It was perfect. I made it to fill the Strawberry Dream Cake I off this site, and it went together perfectly. I had several compliments & many people going back for seconds...I will definately use this recipe again.

Strawberry Dream Cake I

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2007
OMG, I am sitting here eatting the top crusties with some coffee & I am in heaven!!! I am not planning on frosting the cake with the white chocolate since I am covering it with fondant, but I can just imagine how heavenly it would taste with the white chocolate icing. Also, I didn't have sweetened frozen strawberries, mine were unsweetened, soooo, I thawed them in the microwave a little, put 3 tablespoons of sugar over them, let them sit a few minutes & pureed them in the blender with 2.5 tablespoons of white wine. This is to die for! I can't believe how absolutely yummy it is. I can't wait to take it to my sisters birthday tomorrow.
