Thai Chicken Cabbage Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
Followed suggestions of other posters and added garlic, cinnamon, ginger, celery salt, squash, +1 cup water. Had to use up some chix thighs so they added great flavor to the stock. Terrific soup but will add even more liquid next time to thin out.

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Made for my darling wife for Sweetest Day - Excellent result for my first ever apple pie. I added cinnamon & nutmeg but everyone was pleased. Even looked as good as its picture from the cover of my allrecipes cookbook. Thanks for the recipe.

Slow Cooker Carnitas

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2009
Really excellent & simple using a 6.75 bone-in pork shoulder. Following some posted reviews I cut the roast into 4-5 large hunks and tripled the spice mixture except for salt & cinnamon. Was able to spoon off the excess fat and the carnitas were juicy & flavorful. So far used to make fajitas, enchiladas & tortilla soup.

Very simple with great results. Had to make do w/o shallots and subst. 2% for cream. Topped w/ pesto chix breast for tasty, colorful & quick supper with a beautiful aroma (bacon, onion, garlic) which filled the house.

Chocolate Banana Cream Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2009
Very simple recipe with excellent results. Not much banana flavor so I may use banana pudding and/or a dash of banana liquor next time. Added sliced strawberries on top which had the kids calling it the 'banana split pie!' First dessert gone at the birthday party this weekend. Thanks so much.

Sweet Potato Pie I

Incredibly simple and great flavor. As suggested I used half brown and half white sugar, added some ground ginger & cloves, as well as topped with a few homemade pralines after baking. Even with storebought crust it won raves! Thank you, thank you!

Famous Pork Chops

Not sure why this didn't turn out better. Used crushed croutons & dry Italian dressing mix mixed w/ parmesan cheese - but still flavor was less than expected. Breading worked out great but meat not tender. Good starting point and I'll certainly try again.

Bacon-Wrapped Pineapple Bites

Very popular and highly addictive. Depending on crowd I add 1/2 C of hot sauce to mixture. Also, have found is best to wrap so the fatty end of bacon is on the outside to best render/crisp up.

Outstanding! Amazingly simple to make and the results were excellent. Made some in cupcake cups, others in 5oz. ramekins. Served on splash of vanilla custard/pudding with sliced strawberries.

Captain Crunch Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2006
Very simple & fast, defintely a nice change of pace from bread crumbs. I recommend placing the breaded chicken on a rack within a pan, but first spray rack with cooking spray. This will keep the entire coating intact better than placing in baking dish.

Excellent dish. I'll try some other suggestions and add shredded chicken. Omitted the bacon, but DID use bacon drippings as specified - great flavor. Added diced carrots.

Spicy Orange Beef

Incredibly aromatic and wonderfully balanced flavor. After browning the beef I added sliced onions and peppers to saute a few minutes. Then added back the beef and followed the recipe as specified. Paired w/ Fried Rice - excellent!

Like a fondue without the burner! I added crushed almonds on top and since I had plain cream cheese, I substituted dried pineapple, mango and papaya. Excellent with sliced apples & pears, tasty with crackers.

Fantastic "soup that eats like a meal" if ever there was one. I recommend adding a coup of red wine to add depth to the already wonderful flavor. Crusty bread a must on the side!

While this dish generated the most curiosity, it was only reviewed as so-so. I'll try it again but make some changes suggested by other reviewers(shrimp, crawfish, etc.). Thanks for another creative option, Kelli!

Another simple yet tasty holiday gift idea. I made large batches, refilled clean wine bottles and corked with decorative stoppers. Low-cal with high-taste. Agree that a little more sugar (1Tbsp) is usually better recieved. Thanks.

Elaine's Sweet and Tangy Loose Beef BBQ

This is an outstanding and simple recipe that can be used for beef or pork. Using the slow cooker allows you to start it one day, cook thru the night, shred and mix with seasoning and be ready the next day. Great for weekend activities. Try using pork and add one cup mustard, one cup vinegar.
