About this Cook
I'm a random cook really. Alot of the things I make is just whatever I have in the cuboard, no rhyme or reason to anything. My husband is huge on vegeterian dishes and I hate anything with tomatoe sauces, but he hates the cream sauces so this website has helped us make compromises. I'm also a new mom...well a year old mom just about now, but my little guy is quite a needy one so anything that I can prepare fast is great! And im also a huge reader! I've always loved to read, but being on maternity leave often times when the baby was asleep I would find myself reading, I've almost read 50 books under a year, which for me is amazing...amazing still that I have a record of all the books that I've read...some of them missing I'm sure, cause I just started writing them all down now, but reading is one of my passions these days.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook a variety of foods. I go through stages really. Like for the past month I have been obsessing on trying to make bakery style little desserts. I tried it with an Angel Food cake...silly! As funny as it looked it tasted really great, and light! If I have left over things in the fridge like a ton of celery or broccoli I will look up recipes to have something different then the traditional thing. And I love to try and make my own junk food night with a few less calories then we would get at your local pizza or burger place.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We don't really have to many cooking traditions except around the holidays, we always say we're going to make something different then turkey and the trimmings, but we always do, and they always turn out great. We don't usually eat the same thing in the week, so nothing to traditional here...yet!
My cooking triumphs
I've gotten some yummy recipes from this website. I often will try and go and find a more gourmet style of recipe online but always ALWAYS come back here to get it...whats more gourmet then hundreds/thousands of home cooks tried and tasted it themselves?! I LOVED the Butternut Squash Soup recipe I got, although I havn't made it since, but it was great, I was really pleased. The Granola I've made I really like, just have to get the thumbs up from my husband. Everything has been pretty good. I made a low fat Alfredo once for my family when they came to visit, and they LOVED it they couldn't tell the difference from high fat to low fat, so there ya go!
My cooking tragedies
I don't know how many times I've tried homemade pizza crust. The first time it was soggy. The second time, just too doughy...and the rest of the time, I've even thrown out dough too crunchy. I don't know, I can't seem to get it. I figure it's because Im useing a cookie sheet and not a pizza pan, I can't really tell for sure, but my husband says its good when it's clearly not. I also made recently little birthday angel food cakes for my mom. Trying to be the baker that I am clearly not...I don't know what posessed me to try and make little cakes from the light fluffy angel food cake...the chocolate ganache I was so excited about making was way to heavy for them. I got them over just in time till they fell and my mom was able to eat one. What was I thinking?

Easy Meatloaf
I was quite impressed with this recipe. Im not a meatloaf fan persay, but my husband suggested it for something different and decided to give it a try. I didn't have any breadcrumbs with spice, so I added just the normal italian spices. I also did what everyone suggested and sauteed the onions and garlic and some chopped mushrooms for a little bit, but only with a tsp of butter. I was nervous about 1 cup of milk, cause I've never heard or putting milk in it, and then making blend...but it worked! Also I didn't have the worshsture sauce, so I added a few drops of hot sauce. Also with the topping I ran out of ketchup so I added bbq sauce. I thought it was awesome! Thanks for sharing this recipe...it was VERY moist, which is a nice change from my dry meatloaf!

Brown Family's Favorite Pumpkin Pie
Well on behalf of my family, I give this a 5 star rating. My dad who is SUPER picky, said it was the best pumpkin pie he has EVER had. And I had lots of others say it was great. I did use real pumpkin, I don't know if it changes the consistancy or what have you, but I thought the pie was quite moist. I would like to try it with pumpkin from a can. Considering this was my first pumpkin pie ever, and one of the first pies I've ever made, I think it turned out pretty good. I did love the topping, and Im not a walnut fan. Also I didn't feel that there was enough spice in the pie. I like it really spicy to bring out the pumpkin flavour. I even baked the pie a day before hand hoping the flavours would come out. So I would probably add more spices. I will definatly try this pie again! Thanks for sharing!

Szechwan Shrimp
I enjoyed this recipes a lot. It was simple, and I had all the ingredients in my house, I didn't have to go make a special shopping trip, and the taste was excellent! Even my picky husband enjoyed it and said it was a recipe we could keep. I doubled the recipe like everyone said because I added extra veggies, broccoli, red pepper, green pepper and mushrooms. The only change I made to the sauce was instead of using water, I used reduced sodium chicken broth for a bit of an added flavour. Very yummy! Would love to try this with chinese noodles. Definatly a keeper. Thanks for sharing!
