Just finished reading a recipe for turkey breast and onion soup mix.  The directions didn't say anything about removing the skin.  Just rub onion soup mix on and under skin.  The first time I used the slow cooker I made a turkey breast and it turned grey, I threw it… MORE

About this Cook
I am 74 yrs old, wife and grandmother to 8 living in an active gated retirement community. I am active in dance, ceramics, cooking, bocci, and rummy Q clubs in the community. I also attend ceramic classes and have had a lot fun making a variety of items.
My favorite things to cook
I liked to cook anything and everything except I am not interested in desserts, cakes or cookies now as I am a diabetic and only found a very few I like in sugar free desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Shepherds pie, turkey burgers, Sweet and Sour meatballs, brisket, noodle puddings (kugels) sweet and savory, stir fries, chicken soup with matzoh balls, beef barley mushroom soup, any soup. Rosh Hashonah, Passover, and Chanukah dinners. Birthday dinners for our friends.
My cooking triumphs
Passover Dinner for 23. It was a big hit. I even made the sponge and honey cakes. I've made Cioppino dinner for us and 2 other couples, actually did it twice for the same couples they loved it so much.
My cooking tragedies
Sauerbraten. Made it for company for the first time. Nobody liked it. Never made it again. I was mad at my husband and children when they were young and made a fish dinner nobody liked. Made them eat it! Of course, I didn't.

Fresh Cranberry Relish
Started with this basic recipe, added black cherry gelatin (Jello). Added celery, didn't have Granny Smith used Gala apples and used Splenda instead of sugar...turned out terrific. Daughter in law and I absolutely loved it.

Seafood Cioppino
I have been making the same version of Cioppino for nearly 40 years. Because of the expense I have found many shortcuts...using frozen mussels, scallops, shrimp, lobster tails, any firm flesh fish. I've made it for anniversary parties for friends and they raved about it for a long, long time...hinting to make it again. Made it just for HB for his birthday dinner and was he surprised. This recipe is a close to a San Francisco restaurant as you can get. Love it, Love it.

Slumgullion
I learned a similar recipe called Marzetti which was a skillet macaroni and beef recipe as follows: 1-1.2 lbs beef * I use ground turkey now 2 Tablespoons veg oil 1/2 lb uncooked elbow macaroni 1/2 cup minced onion 1/2 cup chopped green pepper 1 8oz cans tomato sauce 1 cup water salt & pepper to taste 1-1/2 Tblspns Worcestershire Sauce Lightly brown beef in skillet. Remove from skillet. In same skillit cook macaroni, green pepper in meat fat until onion is soft. Return meat to skillet. Add tomato sauce, water, salt, pepper and Worcestershire Sauce. Cover and simmer for 25 minutes or until macaroni is cooked to taste. Enjoy
