I love to cook for my elderly parents, friends and family. The more the better. To me, having a house full of hungry folks ready to taste and critique my food makes happy!
My favorite things to cook
I'm not a good baker or pastry maker because I never had anyone to teach me. I love to try new recipes and nothing makes me feel better than to see the look on someones face after that first bite. You know what I mean, the look that says, YUM! A lot of my friends and family have health issues so I've been working on healthy meals that taste great. But my forte is the grill. Everything tastes better on the grill!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm a meat and potatoes person but I've branched out to learn a little about every culture that I can. I love Asian food and Cajun/Creole is a close second. There's always Turkey for holidays and steaks on the grill in the summer. But down home American cooking is what the family loves.
My cooking triumphs
Smoking meats on the BBQ is something that I've really worked on and enjoy. Learning Asian, Cajun/Creole styles so they tast like the restaurant is another plus. But the ultimate was my first attempt at Creme Brulee. The gang said it was 4 star restaurant perfect! WOO HOO!
My cooking tragedies
There are so many I don't know where to start! My parents, friends and family suffered through many years of flops and disasters but kept encouraging me to try and try again. I think the worst of the worst was my first attempt at gumbo. First, you have to learn how to make a roux. Second, you have to learn how not to burn the roux.....or your kitchen!
