Hobbies:
I love to cook and try new recipes, but my passion is definitely baking. I love the feeling I get from trying a new, complex recipe and having it turn out delicious. I also enjoy making goodies that other people love. Friends and family know my passion and sometimes request I make the cake or dessert for special occasions. I have a cousin who makes amazing pizzas and he jokes that he and I should open up a Pizzeria/Italian bakery together. Someday...
My favorite things to cook
I love trying new recipes for appetizers and cookies and desserts. Some of the foods that the hubby often requests and enjoys are Veggie Delight on Garlic Bread (I make it as a main course), Rae's Vegetarian Chili (from this site), Turkey Chili, Artichoke Bites (from the site), my mom's lasagna, guacamole, soft double chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip blondies. I also love to decorate cookies and cakes. Other things we like to make are stir fries, pasta, seafood, Mexican, and lots of soup, veggies and salads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas Eve Italian style with 7 fishes - including whole stuffed lobsters, baccala, calamari, shrimp, clams on the half shell, red snapper and crabs - yum! Growing up my Mom, a wonderful cook, used to pull off this feast single-handedly. Now her grown daughters help out...I always make the baccala and loads of cookies for everybody. I hope to be as good a cook/baker as my Mom someday.
My cooking triumphs
I made my sister's wedding cake in April '05. The photo is in my gallery. It is by far my greatest triumph to date!
My cooking tragedies
One of my greatest tragedies was my first attempt at pumpkin pies. I made a mistake in doubling the recipe for two pies and they wouldn't set up. Now I stick to apple pies for Thanksgiving. There's also plenty of room for improvement with my scratch pie crusts.
