Basic Vegetable Stock

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2010
Great recipe. Easy to do, and I love being able to use up my veggie "odds and ends" for something great. I had been making a lot of soups and buying veg stock, but now I'm making my own stock at almost no cost. Thanks for the recipe!

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Wonderful. I subbed in brown sugar for half of the white sugar, but otherwise made as written. I would definitely make these again. Very chocolatey and fabulous.

Monster Cookies VI

Good cookies. Can't believe they don't have flour, but it worked fine. My huge cookies didn't quite bake all the way through before getting too brown, but I like them gooey in the middle.

Stout-Braised Lamb Shanks

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2009
Oh. My. Goodness. This was sooo good! I used one 1.5-pound shank and used only about 8 oz of stout and about half the amount of beef broth, and I omitted the rosemary. Absolutely wonderful. I used some chocolate stout I had left over, and the flavor was great. I served it with roasted Yukon Gold potatoes. This was my first time making lamb shank, and I will definitely be making this again. Thank you for the wonderful recipe.

Premium Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2008
This is wonderful. I have made both the sponge method and the overnight method, and they both worked great. I usually only need one crust at a time, so I flatten the extra dough a little and freeze it. I thaw it in the fridge and then use it when needed. My husband now swoons over my homemade pizza. Made it tonight for friends and they requested the recipe.

Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2008
I don't know how accurately I can rate these, since I'm not a dog. :o) I made them for our friend's puppy, and he seemed to like them. I omitted the cinnamon. I used small cookie cutters in the shape of a dog bone and a star (for Christmas). I put them in a dog treat jar and tied the cookie cutter and the recipe onto the jar with a ribbon. They were really easy to make and came out looking like professionally-made dog treats. Would definitely recommend.

Seared Salmon with Indian-Inspired Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
Very good. I added a little lemon juice at the end to brighten it up a little. I also used half milk and half cream. I think I did end up needing to thicken the sauce a little with a cornstarch slurry.

Kickin' Collard Greens

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
I've never had collard greens before, so I was a little nervous about trying them, but this was delicious! I halved the recipe but still used the 3 pieces of bacon. Even my husband, who cringes at the thought of eating almost anything green, said they were "not that bad," which to me was a victory. :)

I'd probably make this again. I prefer lasagna with meat, but for a meatless one this was pretty good.

The Best Lemon Bars

Nice flavor. I would've preferred a slightly thinner crust and a little more lemon filling. Wasn't sure how to tell when they were done. Topped them with powdered sugar.

Molasses Mistake Cornbread

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2008
Having read prior reviews, I used maple syrup instead of molasses, and I also added corn to the batter. This was not the best cornbread I've ever had, but it was good for a low-fat recipe. I'll probably make it again because it's healthier.

Yum! We left out the soy and used a little less banana, I think, but I loved the combination of flavors. I think we also added a small amount of sugar to ours. Will definitely make this again. Thanks!

Vickie's Beer Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2007
This had an interesting flavor, and it definitely gets points for being very easy. Never had beer bread before, so not sure if I would make it again, as we didn't particularly love it. I used my beer straight from the fridge and it still came out fine. Made my own self-rising flour. I thought it might benefit from the addition of some cheese or other add-ins.

Smokin' Scovilles Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2007
This was the best chili I've ever had! I followed the recipe pretty much as written, except I halved it to get 4 servings (though it didn't make quite 4 servings, probably closer to 3). My only complaint was that it wasn't quite "liquidy" enough--maybe next time I'll add more tomato sauce (and thus a little more spices). Will definitely make again.
