Wheat Germ Whole-Wheat Buttermilk Pancakes

Reviewed: May 16, 2009
I think that these could be really great but I could taste the baking soda in them. I'd try them out again but next time use either less baking soda or baking powder instead. The texture was not bad (I make only whole grain pancakes and find white flour ones to be like styrofoam) and as others have said they are quite filling. I am not normally a banana person but in reading reviews and in trying things I do think they would be really good with mashed banana and maybe some pecans mixed in.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2009
Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. Only thing I changed was to use entirely whole wheat flour, and I used chocolate chips instead of raisins because we are chocoholics. Next time I think I will try the raisins though. While I'm not usually crazy about them in oatmeal cookies, I think somehow in these ones they'd be really good.

Irresistible Double Chocolate Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2009
Okay these are completely fabulous. They are rich and taste decadent and yet are low in fat and healthy. I can't wait for my kids to try them, I don't think they'll know they are healthy. LOL I'll definitely be making these again and wouldn't mind at all if my kids were eating one every day. Or me too for that matter! Yum!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2009
Okay, first of all I messed this recipe up a bit. I was eating them and thinking they aren't so fluffy or anything but the flavour is SO good. My son said they are "the best pancakes in the world" - and I'd even made them with whole wheat. Later I realized...I forgot to add the baking powder! So I think with that added they *will* be the best and I'll be making them again very soon to test that out. :)

Apple Pie Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2009
Wow these are fabulous! I made the recipe as described. Only variation was that i didn't have enough brown sugar so subbed white sugar for the remainder (still had brown sugar in the topping), and i didn't have buttermilk so used 1 cup milk with 1 tbsp vinegar. they are super yummy, and they do in fact taste like apple pie. will definitely be making these again!

Cinnamon Swirl Bundt Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
This was a major hit at my son's birthday party, with caramel frosting drizzled on top. I made it with whole wheat pastry flour and it was still very good with a couple of kids commenting that "it tastes like it came from the store, only better!" LOL I thought it could have been a bit moister but I used fat free sour cream so that could have been why. Regardless, I will be making this again. Would be great for brunch.

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
I made this with 1 cup chocolate chips but otherwise as the recipe stated. it has to be the moistest, fudgiest cake I've ever had. My husband and I are not huge fans of chocolate cake (made it for my son's birthday, as he requested chocolate cake) but we both loved it. Will be making this again.

Caramel Frosting I

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
My son was asking for "caramel frosting" for his birthday cake. I had never heard of caramel frosting but as usual, Allrecipes came through! This frosting came out fabulously well, my son's face lit right up when he tried it. :) Knowing that it sets fast, I had the cake all ready and it was certainly no problem at all. I made the cinammon swirl coffee cake recipe from this site and drizzled the frosting on top of my bundt cake. I had a bit of frosting leftover and put it in a small dish and ended up with a little piece of fudge! it tastes exactly like fudge, with pecans added would be like butter pecan. Will definitely be making this again.

Seven Layer Taco Dip

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2008
This is absolutely fabulous. I made it as described, aside from using low fat cream cheese and low fat sour cream. I also skipped the green peppers because they are not my favourite. I had been concerned that the lettuce would get soggy but based on some of the positive comments about the lettuce, I kept it in. I'm glad I did! It was yummy and made it a bit different. It makes a huge amount and I did have the thought that since I had leftovers, maybe I shouldn't have put the lettuce in it, as now it would be soggy and the leftovers might go to waste. I opened it up this afternoon (the party was yesterday) to see if I could pick out the lettuce and still enjoy the dip. To my surprise the lettuce is STILL crispy, not in the slightest bit soggy. I had made a point to spin it in the salad spinner first before putting it on the dip though I thought surely it would absorb the moisture from the salsa. it didn't, the dip is great even as leftovers, had some for lunch without chips - just on a fork. Yum!

Blueberry Sauce

Reviewed: May 4, 2008
Okay I think this would actually be a 5 star rating without the almond extract. Apparently it is something that makes you either love it or hate it. I REALLY thought I would love the almond extract, as I love almond flavouring...but I'd tasted the sauce before I'd added it, then put some in (and less than 1/2 tsp even) and expected it was going to be even better...but it just tasted weird! I added some more orange juice as I'd only used half the amount anyways and that helped to offest the almond a bit...but next time I'd leave it out. I was really disappointed, especially as it had tasted so good before I added it! I think this sauce would be great with peaches, raspberries, etc... and will definitely make it again sans almond flavouring.

Surprise Tuna Salad

this is surprisingly good. I had planned to put apple in it but someone had eaten the last one on me. I made it anyways and it is VERY good. I can't imagine anyone thinking this is bland. It isn't "spicy" but it certainly has a lot of different flavours and textures in it - yummy!

Easy Morning Glory Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2008
Wow! Thse muffins are INCREDIBLE. Thanks so much for the tip on "flax eggs" I tried it out as I was running low on eggs and they came out wonderfully. I used whole wheat flour and reduced the sugar slightly, and used pecans instead of walnuts. Absolutely delicious, will be making these again for sure.

Bacon Cheddar Chive Muffins

Made these this morning and they were pretty good. I used whole wheat flour instead of white. Next time I might do half and half. I also used half oil and half applesauce, to cut down on the fat content.

Best of the Best Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2008
Wow, these are quite good - I was not sure what to expect as I don't tend to like white flour muffins and wasn't sure if they'd convert well to whole grain. I ended up using 1/2 whole wheat flour and 1/2 "white" whole wheat and they came out VERY good. I even used "flax eggs" instead of one of the real eggs as I only had one egg left. They are very very yummy, the sugar on top makes it harden and be a bit sweet and crunchy on top. My son and i are in love with these muffins. :)

Banana Oat Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2008
these were really yummy, i substituted 1/4 cup coconut oil and 1/4 cup applesauce for the butter, and used whole wheat flour instead of all purpose. I also put in extra cinammon and some nutmeg and cloves. I will definitely be making these again. They were incredibly moist, next time i will put just applesauce and no oil.

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2008
Holy cheesiness! Yummy, yum. I made this as directed but did add 1/2 cup of milk as per other reviews. It was EXTREMELY creamy and at first a bit liquidy though as it cooled it thickened. I think next time i might try just 1/4 cup milk and see how that went but it was certainly ok with 1/2 cup, it just made me wonder if the milk was even necessary. I used 1% cottage cheese, fat free sour cream, and 2% old cheddar and it was so yummy. All of us loved in, even my 8 yo son who doesn't usually like mac n' cheese much at his up. We will definitely be having this again.

Apple Pecan Cobbler

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2007
Way yummy! To the cobbler/cake debate i'd say it's somewhere in the middle, closer to cobbler than to cake I think due to the volume of fruit. Whatever you call it, it's really delicious. I brought it to a potluck tonight and got compliments on it and when I got home ate a bit of the leftovers and wow! it's good. I will be definitely making this again, probably later this week or early next week as I'm sure my family will feel there is not enough leftover for them! As per earlier reviews I cut back the sugar by maybe 1/4 or so, and very slightly increased the evaporated milk. I would make it the same way again, was perfect as far as I was concerned.

Chewy Maple Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2007
I thought these were okay. My kids liked them a lot. I would NOT call these "maple" cookies so much as coconut cookies. Had I been expecting coconut cookies I may have liked them better, but I think it's a waste of maple syrup (given how expensive it is) to use it as an ingredient if you aren't going to be able to taste any maple. I don't think I'll make these again unless I'm craving coconut.

Perfect Cashew and Peanut Butter Gluten-free Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2007
These are really yummy. My daughter is newly diagnosed with celiac and dairy sensitivity and these were a big hit with her. My son and all their friends (and, okay, me too :)) scarfed most of them down yesterday so I think I am going to make some more today! The cashew taste was very subtle - though I added chocolate chips which probably added to that. I think I may make these sometimes with all peanut butter for the nut butters and then another time with all cashew butter. I bet almond butter would be great too, and they'd be good with or without the chocolate chips.
