an old college buddy once gave me a valentine that had "10 things i love about bethany" on it. the one i remember the best (besides how much she loves her dad," because i surely do love my dad,) was "she eats anything she wants."i did a lot of that in college. anyone familiar with aramark… MORE

i was laid off from my job at the end of april. all through the month of may, i baked, cooked, sautéed & broiled my tiny brain out. hey, cooking is the ultimate release for most kinds of angst - when i am cooking, i am queen of my kitchen. i am in control. i measure things in the palm of my… MORE

i have loooong since come to terms with the fact that while i am a good cook, i am a better baker. (that is the most immodest thing you may ever hear me utter, yikes.) along with reading, thunderstorms & good music, i love nothing better than to turn out a beautiful cake, brownies  -… MORE

it feels like whenever i cook something, my brain is leaping ahead of my oven, thinking about what i can do with possible leftovers. since there's only two of us eating, there tends to be lots of leftovers. bf's mum gave us a frozen turkey last week that we thawed & i decided to roast… MORE

can people live on in something as substantial as food? i say substantial because it is a solid thing, something we eat, something to stay alive, to keep whole & well. food can be everything from healthy to junk, & serves purpose from healthful to useless, but comforting. but can food… MORE

i love summer in all its' foodie splendor. a charcoal grill, a pitcher of cold iced tea, some friends in the backyard...how can you go wrong? summers are rather short here in maine, so we tend to take advantage of them as much as possible. (this may include things like keeping the windows open… MORE

About Me
gah...i love to read, i love being outdoors & i thoroughly enjoy looking at pictures of expensive, beautiful kitchens. forlornly.
My favorite things to cook
everything! (j.k - desserts, desserts are my fave)
My favorite family cooking traditions
pumpkin bread! (a great-great's recipe), oatmeal cookies, cornbread
My cooking triumphs
my house is constantly filled with boys. anything i cook gets hoovered up immediately. triumph is when i can extract a review of the food they just sucked down without swallowing.
My cooking tragedies
i am often too impatient to wait for cakes to cool before cutting or frosting. cut to cakes missing bits that are still stuck to the pan, or frosting with crumbs.
