Chocolate Gravy II

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
my daughter has been asking me to make chocolate gravy for over a year after eating it at a sleepover. no one really wanted to try it because it sounds a bit strange, but I finally made it for Christmas breakfast & it was great! This recipe is so easy and makes a good bit. I made homemade biscuitS & we ate them topped with the chocolate gravy & it was surprisingly good. Thanks!

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2009
This is a really great base recipe as so many reviewers have shown. I have been using this same recipe for years just on the stove top & never saw an actual recipe for it till now. I always play around with it a bit, adding garlic, chicken base, veggies, ect. Never thought to try it in the crockpot, but I'm doing it now.

Granny Kat's Pumpkin Roll

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2009
This recipe is absolutely fantastic! I have tried so many different ones because pumpkin roll is my favorite holiday dessert & none have come close to this. I only made a few modifications that didn't really affect the taste at all. I like to do my rolls in a larger sheet cake pan which makes me think that maybe the original recipe just had a misprint because the filling is perfect for the sheet cake & since so many reviewers complained about there being too much, I assume it was really meant for the larger pan. I also sprinkled pecans over the filling before rolling it up. My trick for the perfect roll is to spray the pan w/ baker's secret spray & flip it onto a large tea towel that has been sprinkled w/ powdered sugar. While the cake is still warm you roll it into a log with the towels & let it sit for a few minutes, this helps it to roll nicely w/o cracking. Once it has cooled a bit you unroll it & spread on the filling. Roll back up, wrap in plastic wrap & chill int the fridge until serving time. PERFECT every time!

Buttermilk Pound Cake II

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2009
This is a wonderful recipe. I made this for my father's day dessert & it turned out amazing. I did a couple of things differently but not anything that really changed the recipe. Instead of lemon extract I juiced a whole lemon & added the zest & I added my yolks & whites seperately because I always whip my whites stiff & fold them in at the end when I make a cake. It just gives a lighter texture which I thought would be great for a pound cake. It definitely has a lemon flavor so don't drizzle w/ anything that you wouldn't want to taste w/ that. Wonderful!

Sturdy Whipped Cream Frosting

Reviewed: May 22, 2009
I'm giving this 4 stars even though it didn't turn out sturdy the way it should because I really think it had more to do w/ me & the weather than the recipe. The flavor was amazing, but it just would not stiffen up for me. That said it is spring in Texas & very humid so I think I'll try it again later on when the weather is better. I passed it off to a friend who is hosting a wedding shower to use as a fruit dip.

Amazingly delicious! I paired this w/ a lemon pepper roasted salmon & it was perfect. I did however leave off the cracker, I'm sure it would have still been great, I just forgot to add it before I served.

Whoopie Pies

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2009
I just made these & they met w/ rave reviews from my family. It's not gourmet, but it's nice to have some versatile recipes that are easy & fun to make w/ your kids. This is one of those. I did change it to suit our tastes & followed a few suggestions. I used a butter recipe yellow cake mix & added lemon pudding to the mix. I also made the other filling that some other reviewers suggested because it used butter instead of shortening & I substituted the milk for lemon juice. Very light, fun & just the right size for little hands. I cooked the cakes @ 350 for 11 min & they were perfect!

Carrot Souffle

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2009
I found this recipe as I was looking for a new way to serve carrot after ending up w/ a 50 lb. bag of them. I took it to our bible study potluck & it was devoured in under 10 minutes w/ rave reviews. We had pizza, fried chicken, cornbread & buffalo wings but the one thing that everyone couldn't get enough of was the carrot souffle, go figure! I did cut the sugar in half and used brown, but I probably would have done that anyway w/o even reading the other reviews. I added about 1 more tbsp of flour and ginger & nutmeg but overall it was basically the original recipe. Fabulous!!

Speedy Ice Cream

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2009
I love this recipe! Both of my school age kids have made this in GT classes and brought the recipe home. I am using it this weekend for my 9 year old daughter's birthday party. I bought enough supplies for all 16 girls to make thier own and I have different flavored syrups that they can add to change the flavor. I'm actually only going to do it for 5 minutes and then have them put it in party cups to have as a "shake" to go w/ the cake. It's a really fun, inexpensive activity with a great ending. I'm sure it will be a hit!

Tina's Shortbread Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
OH MY! If you love butter, this is the one for you. I read the other reviews and went ahead and split the sugar between the white and brown and added a dash of vanilla and these could not be more perfect. Completely different from the traditional chocolate chip cookie, but still just as heart warming.

Zucchini Alfredo

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2009
This is one of those recipes that didn't even make it to the table in my house. After reading the other reviews I added some zip to mine with double the garlic (yum!) and seasoned black pepper. It made for that just right adjustment. I couldn't stop eating it. We recently ate at an amazing Greek resturaunt and this reminds me of the flavors that I find in mediterranian dishes. Way to go!

My daughter loves chocolate mousse so this Thanksgiving I decided to serve somthing a little different for dessert along with the old standbys. We made this Thanksgiving morning and by lunch time it was fabulous. This is definitely a keeper, she has already asked to have this instead of cake for her birthday.

Praline Sweet Potatoes

We have a family recipe for praline sweet potatoes that we have served all my life. I did Thanksgiving out of town this year and didn't think to bring my recipes so I was scrambling for this one. I was so happy with how it turned out. Everyone thought it was the best ever, little do they know it wasn't the old family recipe!

My grandmother has always made the pecan pies for holidays but wasn't able to this year and the task fell to me. I decided to go looking for a different spin and ended up going with this one. No one could believe how good it was! They all said it beat Grandma's Karo pies by a mile, sshhhh ;)
