I am in my mid forties and have had a very unhealthy diet and lifestyle for a great deal of my life. In a desperate attempt to regain control and begin living life instead of just existing through it, I am learning how to cook nutrious meals and have gotten off my couch and started making some of my dreams come true. I've lost about 60 pound in 7 months and have had a new and wonderful experience for every 10 pounds I lost (starting with taking my first skydive)
My favorite things to cook
Chicken Salads, stir fry's, and anything pasta!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I do the family dinner every Thanksgiving, doing almost all of the cooking myself and it is one of my favorite days of the year. I get to cook for 3 days straight, I love it!
My cooking triumphs
I found an old recipe that had belonged to my husbands grandmother. We moved in her home after she died and found it behind a cabinet. It was for her much loved and often requested Carrott cake. I was terriffied about making it one Thanksgiving knowing that I had a lot to live up to, maw maw was a great cook, but it turned out great and evryone said it tasted just like her's. It is now one of my Thanksgiving traditions
My cooking tragedies
The first time my grandmother tried to teach me how to make brown gravy, I took her add a bit of flour as adding just 1 scoop and ended up with a big dough ball in the middle of the frying pan. I felt no better when grandma said 'save it, I use it for fish bait tommrow' turns out some fish love doughballs. (so someone enjoyed my gravy....for a little bit anyway)
