About this Cook
After emigrating from the UK in '97, I lived in Calgary, Alberta with my husband and daughter. In 2004, when Calgary became toooo busy, we drove right across the country to settle in Nova Scotia. We have a lovely house and plenty of space and fresh air. We have just opened as a Bed and Breakfast (www.barnwoodinn.ca). I love organic gardening and hope to take a course to further this interest.
My favorite things to cook
Coming from the UK, baked goods and desserts figure prominently in my recipe favourites.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family's cooking tradition consists of soggy veg, overdone meat and lumpy gravy ! (With the odd successful sponge cake). Not much to live up to.
My cooking triumphs
I love cooking for dinner parties, whether it is buffet-style or sit down. It's such a compliment when guests ask you to share your recipes.
My cooking tragedies
Bread seems to be a challenge that I can't consistently master.

Cranberry Sauce I
Excellent cranberry sauce. Certainly worth the minimal effort required to get over that tinned jelly-like substance.

Bean Soup
A great soup ! I omitted the celery, added some fresh sage and mashed the finished soup with a potato masher so that the crushed beans thickened the final product. Kept really well in the fridge and tasted even better after a couple of days.

Linda's Lasagna
Another 5-star review ! I made this lasagne with home-made pasta, a simple white sauce and a mix of cheddar and parmesan for the cheese. It was excellent. Also kept well in the fridge for 5 days.
