About this Cook
I'm very lucky. I have a job that I love, a supportive family, and thoughtful friends!
My favorite things to cook
Baking! I enjoy making cookies, pies, cakes and the occasional wedding cake. I like to cook hearty foods like roast, soup, stews, beans, etc... I loved making bread though I can't eat very much any more.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I make a special apple crumb pie for the fall & winter holidays that was handed down several generations in our family. I think our family has been enjoying it for about a century now. I also make chocolate dipped candy each Christmas that we've made in our famly for almost 50 years. It's just not Christmas without it. I've used the same sugar cookie recipe to make decorated cut-out cookies for about 25 years.
My cooking triumphs
Making a bride happy with the wedding cake I've baked for them. My average cakes serve 350 people. The largest I've made is one for 500. Otherwise I just enjoy cooking for family and friends when I feel like it. I'm afriad that I don't cook for them every day.
My cooking tragedies
One comes to mind immediately! I had spent all day making a special 2 tier birthday cake for a nephew that was celebrating his second birthday. I was holding it while my DH drove. As we turned a corner the steering wheel slipped in my H's hands and the truck suddenly jerked the opposite direction and the top tier flew off and landed upside down on the truck floor. Oh well... the bottom layer still tasted good!
