Joy's Prizewinning Trifle

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2008
I made this to take to our neighbor's BBQ party and it was a hit! I didn't have any kiwis so I omitted them. I also did not use the pineapple. Instead I soaked the banana slices in pineapple juice and used the juice to moisten the cake. In addition I added some blackberries and blueberries to mine. Some other time I'll have to try this recipe again using the kiwis and pineapple to compare, but nonetheless it was well received and I did come home with an empty dish! Thank you Joy!

Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce III

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2008
Excellent. I made this using Fabulous French Loaves from this site. I used regular raisins since I didn't have golden raisins. Like some of the others, I also had to bake it for a little longer than recipe stated. I thought that it was just a bit on the sweet side for me but still great.

Sugar and Spice Bacon

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2008
The bacon turned out nice and crisp. It was just a little bit sweeter than I would have preferred so next time I'll use a little less brown sugar. Loved the baking in the oven idea. Thanks!

Delicious french bread! We devoured the first loaf and used the second one to make bread pudding. This recipe is a keeper. I omitted the sesame seeds.

This is an easy dish but it needs a little more salt or flavor. I may add bouillon or granules next time.

Satiny Chocolate Glaze

As suggested, I made this in the microwave. I also added an extra tbs. of corn syrup. It was excellent. Used this over "Too Much Chocolate Cake" from this site. Great combination!

Too Much Chocolate Cake

Outstanding chocolate cake!! Very easy, in fact my two daughters ages 12 & 14 made it and I supervised. It is just to die for. I used Satiny Chocolate Glaze from this site with it. A keeper combination! I beg to differ though... there is no such thing as Too Much Chocolate! :D

Barbecue Ribs

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2008
Fantastic, outstanding recipe! I bought a package of Baby Back Ribs at Costco and even though it was more like 7 lbs. I used it all. I doubled the sauce. I also used Hugh's Dry Rub from this site to season the ribs lightly before putting them in the oven. As for the rum I used Meyer's Rum since that is what I had in hand. All I can say is that everyone loved them and there were some messy but super happy faces at our dinner table!

Baked Penne with Italian Sausage

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2008
As written it's just a 3 star in my opinion. It lacks flavor. It needs seasoning, herbs, etc.. If I were to make it again I'd use crushed or minced garlic, fry it with the onions and sausage in a little olive oil. Add the tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, pepper and depending on the taste adjust it with more garlic powder. With the addition of the "seasonings" it was good.

Creamiest Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2008
If I could give more than 5 stars I would. This recipe is fantastic. I did cook it longer like others suggested and to be honest I might have over cooked it but it was great anyways. All I can say is I doubt that it could be improved. I would like to put a stick of cinnamon in it just to see... Thank you so much Bonnie!

Asparagus Parmesan

It was very good however I would add crushed garlic and definitely reduce the amount of butter and EVOO. I used freshly grated Parmesan.

Southern Praline Pecan Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2008
Thank you Jody for recommending this a long time ago. I hadn't forgotten. This is a super easy and great tasting cake. It is what some others have said, a little crumbly and falls apart when you try to slice it but that doesn't take away from the taste. Thank you for posting the recipe Debbie.

Tropical Coleslaw

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2008
This was a delicious sweet coleslaw. I made a few changes. I used 1 chopped granny Smith apple instead of celery because I was out of it. I used some regular raisins and craisins instead of yellow. I also added a little bit of flaked coconut.

Orzo and Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2008
I made this with a few modifications and it turned out great. I used 1 can Campbell's French Onion soup, 1 Knorr chicken bouillon cube, about 3/4 Cup orzo, 3/4 Cup rice and 1 can of chicken stock instead of water. It was great!

Marinade for Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2008
The chicken turned out very moist. The flavor was excellent. I used half vegetable oil and half EVOO (extra virgin olive oil), added more lemon juice because I really prefer it that way. I also used part low sodium part regular soy sauce. I let it marinade for about 4 hours. Great recipe!

Berry Trifle

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2008
This recipe is great! I did however make some modifications. I used Angel food cake instead of the pound cake. Used some orange juice and some strawberry syrup to moisten the cake instead of the praline liqueur. I also added extra cool whip than called for in order to create more layers. Then I decorated the top with fresh fruit. I took it to my work for my boss's birthday party potluck and it got rave reviews.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2008
Excellent! My family loved this so much. I made one with just pepperoni for the kids (they are picky) and another one with more toppings for us. The dough was enough for two. I'd be proud to serve it to dinner guests without hesitation. I may play with it as far as adding a little more salt and other seasonings to the crust in the future. Thanks Jason!

Fluffy Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2008
Excellent recipe. However I did modify it slightly. I did not use the chopped onion because I just knew my kids would not like it that way. I double the potatoes and the cream cheese, but left all the other ingredients the same amount. It was very light, fluffy and delicious.
