Sauerbraten IV

Now this is some sour sauerbraten! The best I have ever made. I wanted to serve this during the week, and I work full time, so after marinating I cooked it for 3 hours the night before I planned on serving it. The next day, since it had cooled, it was easy to skim off the fat. Then I just reheated it on the stove, and made the gravy. Easy and quicker this way. Served over egg noodles. I suggest serving this with some rye bread, you will need to cut the sour with something!

Rosettes I

If done correctly, these are the best cookies you'll ever eat but man, are they a lot of work! I use an electric skillet because your oil has to be the right temp. 350 is perfect, 375 is too hot. Be sure to heat the iron (I use a double so I can do two at once) with the oil. When you dip it into the batter, it should sizzle. Your first rosette will NOT turn out. Simply redip and the old batter should come off with the new rosette. As soon as you put the iron in the oil, shake lightly up and down, and the rosette should come right off. The put the iron back in the oil to keep it hot, it should sizzle when you dip it in the batter. Finally, if your cookies come out too greasy, put them in the oven for just a minute or two and that will help. Enjoy!!

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Not the best, only average. Felix's recipe from this site is still my favorite for choc chip cookies. One useful tip I have to share though - if you want nice fluffy cookies, DO NOT soften the butter. Instead, cut it into small pieces while still cold, then cream away.

Old Glory Dessert

This makes a very memorable dessert, in both taste and appearance. The only reason I don't make it every 4th of July is because where I live (Chicago) it's always way too hot to want to turn the oven on to bake the cookie dough!

Popovers

This is an excellent recipe for popovers, however I found that the oven temp was too high and too long. I recommend baking at 425 for 15 minutes, then reducing to 350 for 15 minutes more. These did raise sky high and they were light and airy, but they would have burned to a crisp had I not checked on them and turned the temp down. I sprinkled with powdered sugar and jelly and served for breakfast.

Angela's Awesome Enchiladas

For all of the seasoning that went into this, surprising I found it bland. I don't know why! I won't use this recipe again, I have found others on this site that are much better. And when you shred the chicken, forget dirtying two forks and just use your hands. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes and go to town. Your hands work much better.
