About this Cook
I love food. I'll finish lunch and think "What's for dinner?" I've been married since 2004 but have no kids, although I have a tiny kitty with a hearty appetite (she loves chicken, bacon, steak, and pasta sauce with onions. Yup. Onions). Cooking is one of my favorite activities, but I'm a much better baker.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook desserts, particularly pies and cookies. I also love to do appetizers! Another favorite is french onion soup. I never make it the same way twice. Some of my favorite recipes from this site are Japanese onion soup, lemon chicken (by Megan Henry), beef tenderloin with roasted shallot sauce, marinated cheese, french pastry pie crust, mock apple pie, fluffy white filling, dora's christmas cookies, I could go on and on and on...
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every New Years Eve instead of going out my family and I serve a huge meal at home. I'm talking appetizers, soup, three or four main dishes, desserts.. I plan the menu a month in advance. My brother is a trained chef so he also loves to cook. He is the gourmet, I'm the practical one! For every holiday I also make a cheeseball. My grandma made it and after she passed away I started making it and now everyone depends on me to bring it!
My cooking triumphs
The dish I'm most proud of is something I made one New Years Eve. I served a cheese souffle and it turned out perfect.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I was ever preparing a chicken breast I was 19 years old and I defrosted the chicken and put it in a pan on the stove. That's it. I used no oil, no salt, no pepper, nothing. I wondered why it tasted so bad because whenever my mom made chicken it was always so good! I've come a long way since then but if you read some of my reviews you'll see I've had others! One time I also found a recipe for green olive soup with a cream base in an old Frugal Gourmet cookbook and had to try it. It was as bad as it sounds!

Pasta Margherita
Yes, this made a quick and easy dinner, but it was very bland. This dish needs some extra spices and veggies, etc. to liven it up! I don't regret buying this sauce to try, but I doubt I'd buy it again.

Mom's Best Waffles
A good, basic easy recipe for waffles. I added fresh blueberries to the batter.

Wiener Schnitzel
I used pork in place of veal, and topped with a generous sprinkling of sweet paprika and fresh lemon juice, like I had it at a German restaurant. Loved this recipe!
