About this Cook
I grew up with a traditional Mexican grandmother who insisted on teaching me how to make the family recipes, and I haven't stopped since!
My favorite things to cook
My old family Mexican recipes, and I love to experiment to make comfort food healthier.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making tamales with all of the women in the family during the Christmas holiday...well, actually every time we get together, all of the women cook and the men watch sports and I think it's so much fun...like 3 generations together in the kitchen!
My cooking triumphs
I invented a scone recipe from scratch! Also, my boyfriend seems to think that I'm a gourmet chef, even when he's eating some sort of Campbell's recipe that was super easy. Isn't that sweet?
My cooking tragedies
I have an ancient oven in my apartment and it took some getting used to. Until I figured out how to adjust the temperature, I burned the bottoms of alot of things and had to throw away alot of chocolate chip cookies.

Margarita Cake
I used the Jose Cuervo mini margaritas everywhere it called for separate margarita ingredients...I also followed many of the other reviewer's advice and used yellow cake mix, replaced the oil with applesauce, and made 2 seperate batches of the icing with one of them only using half of the liquid ingredients. When the cake came out of the oven, I poke holes in it and drizzled half of the thin batch of icing on it. I let it cool for about 10 minutes, then turned it onto a plate and poured the other half of the icing on...I waited about a half hour before drizzling the thicker icing on. SOOOO GOOD!! Doesn't taste too "alcohol-y" or sweet, believe it or not.

Blueberry Cream Muffins
These are GOOD if you use the reviews before you start. Maybe next time I will just make the recipe as stated just to see what it's like... All that I had on hand was bread flour, so the muffins were nice and "sturdy". I also did half white and half brown sugar, added cinnamon, and I'm pretty sure I used more than 2 cups of blueberries (frozen). I made mini muffins because I don't have a regular muffin tin and I have muffins coming out of my ears! Oh, I'm always trying to add protein to my recipes and GREEK YOGURT is a fantastic way to do it. I substituted non-fat plain greek yogurt for the sour cream which tastes exactly the same, but is much better for you. ;-)
