Key Lime Pie VII

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2011
Forgiving recipe! I doubled the recipe, then realized I only had 1/2 the amount of co denser sweetened milk I needed. I added a bit of maple syrup to make up for the missing sweetness. I still had plenty of mixture to fill two pies tins. I also substituted my homemade yogurt for the sour cream. My SIL said it was the best she's ever had.

Mexican Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2011
Oh my gosh. This was sooooo moist and wonderful!!! I used unrefined sugar and coconut oil. I also added a whole bag of chocolate chips since I wasnt going to frost it (I didn't need to use the whole bag though cuz the cake itself was so good). Next time I make it I will top it with whip cream and crushed Heath bar.

Gingerbread Cookies I

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2010
I was nervous to try any gingerbread cookie recipe since the reviews are so polar opposites! Either people loved it, or vehemently hated it! I doubled all the spices and vanilla- I'm so glad I did. I probably could've gotten away with adding even more. I ran out of molasses, so I had to substitute... I used 1/2 Cup of melted piloncillo. I used the extra 1/2 Cup of flour the recipe suggested. Be aware that the cookie can turn out soft and cake-y, or totally crunchy, like a tea cookie depending on how long you bake it! Not only that, but they harden a decent amount as they cool. I wanted it somewhere in the middle. I found that baking it for 9 min at 350 got it hard enough to frost, but not to crisp my kids wouldn't like them. I haven't eaten a lot of gingerbread cookies before. These turned out good and were fun to make.

Ricardo's Pizza Crust

I heeded other reviewers advice, and only did 1/3 of the sugar called for. Turned out great!! I was surprised how good it was! I want to try using this recipe for rolls next time!

Megan's Granola

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2010
I didn't have any wheat germ or dried fruits, but I couldn't tell the difference. It was still DELICIOUS. I love the idea of having a cereal I can feed my family that has zero corn syrup, zero preservatives, and a minimal amount of refined sugar (the brown sugar). I might try to replace that with an unrefined sugar and see how it turns out.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread I

Reviewed: May 26, 2010
Okay- DELICIOUS! I just had a piece right out of the oven. So soft, and sweet, and perfect with some butter! I followed others' advice cut the cooking time. Mine was perfectly brown after 25 min. I also followed someone's advice to leave the dough a little sticky to ensure a moister bread. It makes 3 loaves, but I only have 2 loaf pans. So I sliced up the 3rd loaf, put the pieces in a 9X13 pan, and sprinkled the tops with brown sugar. Tomorrow we'll have sticky buns for breakfast.

The Best Unbaked Cherry Cheesecake Ever

This cheesecake was DELICIOUS! I've also made it with fresh strawberries. Layered sliced strawberries in the middle of the cream mixture, and then on top to get as many strawberries as possible. It was sooooooo good!

GrannyLin's Barbeque Ribs Made Easy

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2009
I really liked the browning of the ribs in the broiler part of this recipe. I forgot to do the salt and pepper- no biggie since the bbq sauce I used is the bomb! I put the bbq sauce in at the beginning and cooked the meat in it on high for a little more than 2 hours. The meat was falling off the bone in that short of time. And it was delicious!

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2009
I would give just the crunchy buttery bread crumbs on top of the mac and cheese 5 stars by themselves. For me those MADE this meal. I used milk instead of sour cream, which I'm glad because I don't like things tasting too sour. And I used less than called for. I also added some onion, garlic and cayenne powder for extra flavor. It turned out better than I imagined.

Slow Cooker Pork Chops II

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2009
It was okay. There's something about it I can't quite put my finger on that I wasn't too stoked about it. It was moist- that was a plus. But way too oily. I used less than 1/2 the amt called for, and I def think it could've gone without.

Creamy Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2009
Great idea! The sauce def. needed something more. I added sauteed garlic, onion powder, italian seasoning, cayenne powder, black pepper and salt. Boiling the chicken is a nice touch since it makes the chicken very moist! I used the left over chicken broth instead of milk just cuz I'm resourceful like that. I added frozen spinach along with the peas. It all turned out really great. It's a great use for the million cans of cream of mushroom soup in the cupboard!

Steff's Shepherd Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
I think this recipe is fool proof! Half way through, I realized I was doing 1/2 of everything except the can of soup. But it still turned out delicious. To the meat I added chopped onions and garlic and seasoned salt. To the mixture I added frozen peas and lots of black pepper. To the mashed potatoes I added cayenne pepper, salt, butter, milk, garlic powder and lots of onion powder. It went so well with Pillsbury biscuits!

Soba with Toasted Sesame Seed Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2009
First of all, I had no broccoli, so I used peas and a couple green beans instead. I also didn't have fresh garlic, so I had to use garlic powder. I probably used 1/8 Cup of sesame seeds and that was more than enough. I would go easy on the balsamic vinegar. It was just okay, so we kept adding stuff to it through out the meal. The sliced ham and salted scrambled egg gave our pallets a pleasant break from being overpowered by the noodle sauce.

Double Chocolate Mocha Trifle

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2009
I tasted this somewhere else and had to find it on allrecipes. This recipe is delicious! I modified 2 things: I followed the recipe on the box for the pudding which worked out well (because this recipe I think calls for too little milk). And we don't drink instant coffee, so I made a tiny bit of really strong coffee with our french press and mixed that in with the pudding. The coffee after taste is awesome!
