I am a stay-at-home mom. I have one daughter, who is the love of my heart, and a wonderful husband who is the love of my life. I keep busy with running the household, but enjoy cooking most of all since my daughter has taken an interest in cooking at the early age of three.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta dishes, american, and mexican dishes. Though I am hispanic by birth, growing up in Alaska limited my exposure to the culture. I am learning both Tex-Mex cooking and traditional Mexican dishes. It's fun to discover parts of my heritage.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making tamales at Christmas, family BBQ's, and lately competing in cooking contests.
My cooking triumphs
Last year I won 3rd place in the Texas state fair 'Eagle Brand' cookie contest. This year I won several events at the Texas state fair including: 1st in the Holiday cookie contest, 3rd in the bread contest in the Muffin category, and 1st place in the bread contest, Cornbread category. My crowning moment was winning BEST OF SHOW in the bread contest for my cornbread recipe.
My cooking tragedies
I didn't cook it, but...: my first date with my husband, he cooked for me, made artichoke pasta salad, but he forgot to remove the 'hairy' part of the artichoke. I swallowed as much of it as I could, until he bit into a hairy bite. He yelled, "It's poison! Spit it out!" From that moment on, we promised that if either of us every made something in inedible, we would say something rather than pretend it good. It's worked for 11 years. Tragedy turned good!
