Old-Fashioned Rice Pudding II

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
Just like I had growing up! The rice will absorb all of the milk it just might take longer in different ovens. I left out the salt as my Mum never used it. Really nice treat, thanks for posting it!!! Also add some raisins (1/4 cup) and some freshly grated nutmeg with other ingredients.

Old Fashioned Coconut Cream Pie

Didn't have enough 1/2 & 1/2 so used some milk. Used cornstarch instead of flour. Also put in extra coconut. Made it with graham crumb base instead of pastry. Turned out really good!!!

Banana Peanut Butter Bread

My husband made this a couple of days ago and it turned out really good. He's not an expert in the kitchen but he said it was an easy recipe. He used chocolate chips instead of walnuts.

Vintage Lemonade

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2008
I halved this lemonade recipe the other day to test it out... it was the best lemonade I've ever tasted so I'm making some more!!! Time consuming yes, but it is worth it!! The only thing I changed was a little less sugar because I like it a bit tart and I zested (long strands) the lemons to get the rind.

Italian Sausage Tortellini Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2008
This is an awesome soup! I only made a couple of changes because I didn't have all of the ingredients on hand. I used spicy Italian sausage, canned tomatoes, frozen spinach and added a can of drained kidney beans. I didn't have any zucchini but it was still great. Served with garlic bread it was very filling.

Truck-Stop Buttermilk Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2008
I made these buttermilk pancakes for the first time last week and I won't go back to my regular pancake recipe. I cut it back to 2 servings (1 egg, 1 cup flour, 1 cup buttermilk, etc.) and they turned out wonderful!

Best Peanut Butter Cookies Ever

Reviewed: May 18, 2007
These cookies didn't turn out the way I'd hoped. I reduced the sugar and used 1/2 white and 1/2 brown as suggested. They tasted really good but they spread quite a bit and were too thin. Next time I make them I'll add a couple Tbsp of flour just to stiffen them up a bit. They didn't look like the picture at all. I did use a good brand name PB. ***Tried making these cookies again with a few changes. I used all natural peanut butter and added 1/2 tbsp of flour or so. I also rolled them in sugar before pressing down with fork. They turned out so much better this time. I really think it was the natural peanut butter that made the difference.

Gram's Chicken Pot Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2007
This is a great recipe. I didn't use a whole chicken I just boiled a couple of chicken breasts. I also had some left over pastry that I used for the top only instead of frozen pie crusts. I had some frozen corn in the freezer so I added some and also put in some diced carrot. It's a good recipe because you can add what you like and leave out what you don't. I will make this again for sure.

Wow, this is sooo good! It tastes way better (and is healthier) than the packaged stuff and I had all the ingredients in my cupboard! I left out the salt but I didn't miss it. I will NEVER buy packaged Taco Seasoning mix again. Thank you so much.

Ukrainian Red Borscht Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2006
My husband's background is Ukrainian so I wanted to find a recipe that was authentic. I didn't include the sausage this time as we had meat in our cabbage rolls, also left out sugar and potatoes (didn't have time to peel them). I did put in a beef cube to add a little more flavour and I basically just put all the ingredients in one pot at the same time and it turned out great! Thanks for the recipe!

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

I was looking for a fast and easy recipe for whole wheat bread. I came across this one and gave it a try. I added some flax seeds, sunflower seeds and some oatmeal and just baked two loaves and they turned out really nice. I used my KitchenAid too which helped.
