About this Cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mom's smokin' garlic bread ... when the smoke detector goes off -- the bread's ready!
My cooking tragedies
Poached pears for the first time, then I learned to use ripe pears! It's pathetic when all your guests ask for steak knives to cut their pears ... but they were still tasty ;-)

Tourtiere (Meat Pie)
Finally! I've now found a recipe to rival my father's! Our grocery store sells a 'meatloaf mix' which is 1/3 lean ground beef, 1/3 ground pork and 1/3 ground veal. This is the only change I made. I doubled the recipe and am so glad I did ... because now we have another whole pie in the freezer for New Years Eve!! My husband is still raving to his family about the Tourtiere we had on Christmas Eve!

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing
This turned out great for me and everyone loved it! I used 1/2 dark rye bread and 1/2 flourless whole wheat bread and out of habit (and because we like a moister dressingt, I didn't toast the bread. For this reason, too, I added shredded boiled potatoes. I don't stuff my turkey but cooked it on the stovetop and put it in the oven to keep warm. I also used fresh herbs. It was great! I'll definitely make this again next year :)

Shredded Brussels Sprouts
We love our brussel sprouts so I was worried about messing with them, especially on Christmas Day, but not only were they relatively easy to make but they tasted GREAT and everyone loved them ... my husband even asked if we could have them every week! I followed other's advice and quartered the sprouts and I used double-smoked bacon. I didn't have green onions and didn't miss them. I'll definitely make them again. Thanks for a great addition to my favourites!
