Martha's Vegetable Beef Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2009
What a wonderful recipe! When I make vegetable soup it usually seems a little bland, but this was not the case tonight. Very flavorful. I doubled the recipe, added a can of kidney beans, and cooked the beef with a whole yellow onion and 3 cloves of garlic. I also subbed beef broth for the water. So easy to make, was inexpensive, and healthy. Will surely make this often all winter long.

Amazing Pork Tenderloin in the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2009
Ho hum recipe. Might be worthy of 3.5 stars, but I thought it was awfully garlicy. If I made it again, which I doubt I will since there's better recipes out there, I would only add 2T garlic. Don't get me wrong, the overall flavor wasn't bad, it's just not something I would make again.

Bob's Awesome Lasagna

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
Good recipe, but I modified it just a hair like others had done.....added 1 egg to cottage cheese mixture, and used 56 oz. of spag sauce. When I make this next time I will most definately use a very large container of ricotta instead of cottage cheese. There wasn't nearly enough cottage cheese in the recipe, plus I think it would taste better with ricotta. I soaked my uncooked noodles in hot water for 40 minutes and they turned out great. Definately add more spices at your leisure, like garlic powder, italian seasoning, and a dash of nutmeg.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2009
This is so easy and inexpensive to make. I'm not sure what Stroganoff is supposed to taste like, but we thought it tasted like a mild chicken alfredo. Next time I may add some mushrooms, but it's good just the way it is.

Orange Cream Fruit Salad

I think this recipe needs some sugar and the fruit could be doubled. Too much 'dressing' and not enough fruit. I doubt I will make it again. It just tastes okay.

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

What a simple and tasty way to make fish. I omitted the celery salt since I didn't have any, and added Old Bay to each side as others have done. Next time I might add some bread crumbs or panko for a little crunch. But, it's wonderful as it is!

Baked Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2009
In the unlikely event that I would make these again, I would decrease the onion in half and surely saute them in butter to soften before adding to the potatoes. It just had an overwhelming onion flavor. I also didn't find this recipe to be as creamy and flavorful as most others have. In fact, they're sort of on the dry side. But, since I am enjoying them a tad more today leftover and the onion flavor is more mellow, I'm going to guess that making them the day before and refrigerating them is key.

Oven Fried Chicken III

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2009
OMG! So good and easy, plus all the ingredients (minus chicken) are things I always have on hand anyway. I used chicken breasts and flattened them out. I diluted the mayo just a slight bit, as others have done. I baked the breasts at 400 for 40 minutes and they were perfect. My husband and I were both really impressed with this recipe. And it's hard to impress him!

Cincinnati Chili I

It will never taste 100% like the real deal, but this is very close. Skyline is my all-time favorite restaurant. I would suggest using the finely shredded cheese to make it a bit more authentic, and serve the cheese at room temp. So freakin' yummy!!

Oatmeal Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2009
I found the chili powder to be a tad overwhelming. If I were to make this again, I would only add half the amount. The oats didn't get crispy. So, perhaps I would grind them up a bit before adding to the mix. Overall flavor wasn't too bad, maybe a little blander than I had expected though.

Favorite Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2008
This recipe is pretty good. I baked them only 10 minutes as everyone else has suggested and they turned out just right. I was expecting the cookies to be a bit more chewy & soft though. This is a good recipe, but it still doesn't beat the Flourless Peanut Butter Cookie recipe on this site....and it's only 3 ingredients!

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

My mom made this when I came to visit last week. She had made this for their friends who came to visit & told me how they raved and raved about how good it was, and they were right!! It tastes very similar to KFC or Lee's. She said it was so easy to make and not to be alarmed when you're done mixing it up and it seems too dry. Apparently cabbage releases water and that's why you must let it chill for 2 hours, or overnight as she does. Very good recipe. I look forward to making it myself to take to the next function I'm invited to!

MMMMM... Brownies

Reviewed: May 29, 2008
These brownies are good. I used the Milk Chocolate chips, as another reviewer claimed it would make them taste sweeter. Well, it didn't. I used the Kroger brand, but next time I will try Nestle or Ghiradelli chips and stick to the semi-sweet. I will also bake them a bit longer than 30 minutes since the middle is a tad undercooked....maybe 33-35 minutes. But, overall a good recipe!

Very good and simple to make. I always thought bean salad looked awful at family gatherings, but now that I'm pregnant I find it quite tasty!! And to keep calories down I used Hellmans Light, because it is the Best :)

Mom's Ground Beef Casserole

The flavor wasn't too bad, but it just didn't have good consistency and wasn't very appealing overall. Will not make this again. There isn't even anything I can think of that would make it better.

Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2007
Wow, who knew cookies could be so fast and easy to make! My husband & I were just sitting around tonight and he said, "I wish I had some peanut butter cookies...can you make some?" So I found this recipe and just whipped them right up from the few ingredients I have on hand! I added 1 t. of vanilla. They taste wonderful. Next time I will flatten them some and make the famous fork marks for authenticity and bake them longer, about 12-14 minutes. Yummy!

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2007
I've had better...I've had worse. Followed the recipe, except I used 1 can of biscuits and rolled them out and cut them like someone else suggested. One can was more than plenty. I added some spices because it absolutely needs it...salt, pepper, parsley, garlic powder. I put the biscuits in 1 hour before serving and they were still quite doughy. My husband thought it would've been better with noodles in it, but I told him that would be called 'Chicken and Noodles'! So, maybe I will keep this recipe, but add frozen noodles instead next time.

Easy Broccoli Quiche

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2007
Very Easy and Good. Even my quiche-phobic husband tried it and ate half of it....there went my leftovers I was hoping for! I took the advice of others and only used 1 C. milk, used only 3/4 of an onion, and increased the broccoli to 2-1/2 C. Turned out perfect after baking for about 50 minutes. I don't know why some people are saying this will make 2 pies. I used a deep dish frozen crust and everything fit just fine, so don't worry! Oh, it's even better with Oscar Mayer Real Bacon bits in it too! I've made this recipe 3 times in the past couple months for dinner!
