About this Cook
I've been married for almost 20 years, but I just started really cooking a few years ago. I used to consider myself a baker, but now I love cooking and baking. I am constantly looking for great recipes, especially things that are delicious and healthy.
My favorite things to cook
I still love to bake pretty much anything, but I love cooking with fresh ingredients. We're trying to go "organic" and low fat, so I'm constantly searching for recipes using fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs. I use an insane amount of garlic, basil, cilantro, and onion.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We bake cookies every Christmas, as do many families. I am trying to teach my daughter to enjoy cooking/baking too.
My cooking triumphs
I don't know if I have any true triumphs, but I love my guacamole, zucchini bread, basil/tomato pasta salad, spinach quiche, steak-on-a-stick, and much more.
My cooking tragedies
I've had plenty of flops, but the funniest was when my Kitchenaid mixer sent a huge puff of flour all over me. I looked like a ghost.

Grilled Delmonico Steaks
We used this recipe with some organic steaks we had, and it worked very well. It seasoned the steaks nicely and there wasn't a gamey taste. This is definitely a keeper. We used the full amount of salt and it was fine for us. Even my husband who doesn't normally salt his food thought it was great.

Seasoned Turkey Burgers
These are very good and are quick and easy to throw together.

Summer Lasagna
My husband and I really liked this, but our 12 year old daughter just thought it was okay. "4" would be our average rating. We liked the extra flavor of the zucchini and my husband and I didn't really miss the noodles. We did "sweat" the zucchini and we still had to pour off some liquid, but it was no big deal. I added a little bit of extra cheese, but I did use low-fat cottage cheese, extra-lean grass-fed ground beef, and egg substitute. We'll be making this again. Thanks Patricia Mary.
