I was born, raised, and educated in Cincinnati, OH. Since I was a child (no siblings), I loved to stay close to my mother in the kitchen. She was a country cook and she made some of the best dishes ever. She taught me most of what I know when it comes to cooking. My husband is from the South, so most of my cooking are the old fashion southern dishes. I watch the cooking shows on TV always looking for new recipes. My favorite hobby is collecting cook books and recipes. I have collected over a thousand of them in past years. Needless to say, the kitchen is my most favorite room in the house.
My favorite things to cook
Cheesecake, Chess Pie, Bread Pudding, Sweet Potatoe Pie, Pound Cakes, Apple Pies, Cookies, Casserole dishes, Vegetables
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Sunday after church, the best meal ever that my mother fixed was: Fried Chicken, Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, Candied Yams and Cornbread. Another tradition was on Thanksgiving morning, we'd have turkey and gravy with grits, scrambled eggs and homemade biscuits. Yum!
My cooking triumphs
My smooth and creamy grits (no lumbs), my green beans (recipe is requested a lot), my creamy corn, peppers and tomatoes dish which is a favorite.
My cooking tragedies
I was making a chess pie and didn't use Carnation Evaporated milk. I used another brand and the pie did not set. It came out like a smoothie. My son loves the pie so much that he drank it out of a coffee mug. You just can't substitute some brands. Only the best will do.
