Crepes

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2008
This recipes is incredible easy and impressive. Every single crepe turned out! I have been making a lot of spinach/goat cheese crepes. Pour the batter into your pan and let one side cook. Flip and then add a bunch of fresh spinach on top with crumbled goat cheese. Once the other side is cooked I flip each side of the crepe to make a pocket and let the goat cheese inside melt. Delicious!

Herbed Potato Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2008
This was incredibly easy and incredibly delicious! I minced a couple cloves of garlic and minced a rib of celery for this one. I sauted the onion with the celery and garlic. For the rest of it I followed the directions. It was so filling and satisfying. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful and easy recipe!

This recipe is great with tweaking. My Dad used to make this a lot for us growing up. Really play around with it until it is perfect for you. We eat it with my grandmother's homemade jam.

This is a fantastic recipe for cosmos. I however prefer to use Rose's lime cordial instead of fresh lime juice. It really helps balance the cranberry juice. Yum!

Sam's Famous Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2008
This recipe is fantastic. I am not a fan of nuts in cakes so I ommited them. I used my kitchenaid mixer and it really encorporated everything well. I loved how after a good beating the batter had a fantastic light orange colour. After baking my cake was beautiful. The texture was perfect. I loved how it had a great orange shade. The frosting was delicious too. This is the PERFECT carrot cake!

Eileen's Spicy Gingerbread Men

This recipe was okay. I think I might even roll them a bit thicker next time. I didn't find the cookies to be very favourful. It just tasted like something important was missing. The colour and texture was nice. And they did not taste bad. The dough was really easy to work with. I think this would be a great cookie to make with your children. They will realy be able to easily work the dough.

Microwave Lemon Curd

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2007
This was a deliciously easy version of lemon curd. This is something I really fell in love with when I was living in England. I think I would cut the amount of lemon zest I used. I really enjoyed this recipe. It was perfect for filling cupcakes with!

French Onion Soup Gratinee

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2007
This recipe was absolutely divine! Unfortunately I didn't have any red wine or sherry on hand. It was Sunday, and the liquor stores were closed! However, I did have a decent white wine and it actually did the trick. I used swiss and gruyere on top. I also browned some very finely minced garlic with the onions. This soup was fabulous. Make this recipe! Thanks for sharing it!

Roasted Turkey Legs

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2007
This is a great recipe for those who love dark meat and don't want to be bothered cooking a whole turkey! I use broth instead of water. I also then half way through the cooking time surround the turkey legs with savoury stuffing. I keep a lid on the roasting pan until the last little while as well. It keeps the meat juicier, and then I just brown it toward the end.

Bread Machine Bagels

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2007
I absolutely love these bagels! This was my first time making them. I assumed they would look strange and be bumpy etc. But they were not! They were really pretty and really delicious! I followed the directions, however I added an extra 1/4 cup of water to the dough. My bread maker sounded like it was killing itself... so the water was VERY important! I added sesame seeds. They were impressive! I can't get good bagels in Halifax, N.S. Now I can!

Rachel's Wasabi Cocktail Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2007
I hate giving bad reviews. I have tried to make this (twice now) And I DO like wasabi. However, this recipe is terrible. I couldn't stand it at all, and a couple of my friends cooking with me did not like it either. So, it COULD be me, but I did try it twice. (With a friend along the way the second time!)

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2007
I have to admit, I had high hopes for this recipe. I also wasn't that pleased with it. I mean, it was edible... it just wasn't great. It tasted like I had bought a frozen pizza crust from the grocery store. I added some garlic powder to the crust, but it was still rather tasteless.

Jo Jo's Favorite Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2007
These muffins were fantastic. I added a half a cup of chocolate chips to the batter. There isn't anything more delicious than banana chocolate chip muffins. They stayed extremely moist. I kept them in a large tupperware container to make sure they stayed that way. They were easy to make. What a great use for over-ripe bananas!

Potato Latkes I

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2007
This is a pretty good latkes recipe. I see no reason for using 3 eggs. I feel that one egg per 2 cups of potato is more than enough. I like to grate most of the potato, and then shred aprox. one half a cup of potato. Growing up my father would grate the potato and not shred it. Some people love using matzoh meal instead of flour, that works great too!

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2007
This chicken was absolutely delicious. I mainly used the cooking method and changed the spice rub a bit. I used lots of garlic powder, salt, pepper, chili powder for the rub. I quartered an onion and placed the chunks inside the cavity of the chicken along with 3 smashed garlic cloves, and a chopped carrot. My 4 pound chicken cooked in 4.5 hours. It was golden and somewhat sticky (as promised) We are usually lovers of only dark meat, however the breast meat was SO juicy we were converted! Great recipe! Thanks for sharing.

Roasted Vegetables

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2007
These vegetables are fantastic. I used yukon gold potatoes, a giant red onion, an orange bell pepper, portabello chunks, and acorn squash chunks. I minced 3 cloves of garlic as well. I LOVE garlic! The balsamic vinegar did something amazing to these veggies. We served them along with a delicious rib-eye steak!

A Simply Perfect Roast Turkey

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2007
This is a simple, delicious, classic way to cook a turkey. Use this recipe as a solid foundation each time you cook a turkey. Experiment with different herbs, and rubs etc. Always keep the ingredients mentioned, but feel free to add some new ones! I always make sure to rub the butter underneath the skin where I can too. Especially right underneath the skin on top of the turkey's breast. Delicious! To the reviewer who stated that her turkey was not completely cooked after 5.5 hours: There is a really good chance that you did not properly thaw your turkey. It is supposed to take almost 5 hours per pound to thaw in the fridge. Some turkeys will even take longer!

Gramma Bertha's Banana Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2007
This was a really easy, "no fail" recipe. I barely had any butter left so I used what I had, and replaced the rest with oil and a little bit of milk. I didn't have sour cream, so I replaced that with yogurt. I added a tsp of vanilla and a teaspoon of nutmeg. I think the bananas I used were rather small, as this recipe could use a tiny bit more banana flavour. However, I am sure it is due to the small bananas I had on hand. I mashed the bananas instead as well. I cooked mine in a bundt pan for 60 minutes. This recipe is delicious! Absolutely perfect with a cup of coffee in the morning! Mmmm!

Grandma's Egg Custard Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2007
I love this recipe because I used skim milk, never made a custard pie before... and it STILL turned out FABULOUS! I love buying these pies, so being able to make them with ease is such a treat. I used an extra half teaspoon of vanilla, and a bit more nutmeg. I also added in the leftover yolk from the egg white wash. Like I said, I only had skim milk in the fridge and it still held firm. Delicious :)

Garlic Shrimp Linguine

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2007
This recipe was absolutely wonderful. I also doubled the ingredients to make more sauce. But WOW, my shrimp were very flavourful and lovely. I used 6 cloves of garlic as well. I would suggest that you don't use pre cooked shrimp. Cooking the shrimp in the sauce takes only minutes and the shrimp absorb the flavour much nicer this way. We also COVERED it with fresh parm! Make this recipe, you will enjoy it! Update: I have cooked this over 10 times now. I still use tons of garlic. And now I add a bunch of cream to it as well. Yes, even more fattening. However, it is delicious this way. The cream helps hold together all of the ingredients so they don't just sink to the bottom. Yummy!
